Build Thread Bird_dog0347's Frankenstang, holy crap it's a car again (for a minute)

Very nice build so far. I'm building a 331 IRS notch as we speak. Glad to know 275/35r18s will fit. 45mm is just right. Great job man

So I took my TFS heads and got them cleaned up, checked out with a clean bill of health and had .018 milled off the deck to get the Loc-Wire gasket ring milled out of it. I've got my valve covers stripped and the crappy old orange paint off them, I taped off the raised letters so I can leave them with the machined look and laid down some wrinkle black paint. I'm still debating what color/texture to paint the port matched GT-40 intake I got from @hoopty5.0, not sure how it would look with wrinkle black and I'm thinking of maybe making it a gunmetal color. I also got in most of the stuff I need to do the top end of the engine, but I still need a pushrod checking tool as well as solid lifter to check PTV clearance, which I hope will be fine with a TFS1 cam and 1.72 rockers.

That said, if anyone has some good 1.6 RR and wants 1.7, mine are scorpion and I might be interested in trading.

My vote for intake is gunmetal gray. Black kind of hides the aesthetic appeal of that intake IMO. I'm also fairly sure that you're going to have a ptv issue if you use the 1.7's. Especially after milling the heads. Might be able to fly cut the Pistons but cheaper/better to grab some 1.6's.

I think what ever color you paint the intake you should paint the "trick flow" on the valve covers to match.

That's some really detailed taping... and I'm ok with the bare aluminum look below.

Yeah I'm gonna have to check it for sure.

Got that stuff painted and started doing a compression test before tearing it down as I don't want to do this upgrade on an engine that's bad or needs a rebuild, only to be interrupted and on the phone for a work problem for the last 6+ hours.

I knew I was gonna start tearing the car down this weekend to install the HCI, so I decided I better drive it a bunch this week...

Started tearing down the motor today around 10am, had to stop here at 2 since the wife and I have plans this evening. I still need to figure out how to remove the AC line for the condensor coils that runs on passenger frame rail so I can install cam with the block still in the car. That and I don't have AC right now anyways so no point in leaving it in there till I can get everything I need to add it back eventually.
