Progress Thread Hoopty v2.0 - Back in action!

Man, I remember back in my electrical apprentice days having to trench out runs like that by hand. Would get there at 6AM and my boss would hand me a shovel and pick and say "get digging!"

Yeah me too... almost an entire year working for a contractor doing duct banks...

@hoopty5.0 please determinate those wires and install some kind of connector fittings on the knockouts on that panel before you end up with a short circuit. that is unless my eyes deceive me...

Oof. You're right, I forgot them. I'll fix it.

The little helpers are fun. My daughter is just coming up on 3 and is always wanting to help me. My 6 and 10 year old boys are already mostly over those days, so I’m trying to soak it in with her. I have a feeling she may be my long term helper though.

It's happening again.

A moment of weakness and I broke my self imposed rule of "one project at a time".

The car has been collecting dust waiting on a clutch. As such, I've been getting the classic car itch and have been in FO mode at work cruising classifieds for 6-7 hours. In the midst of all that, I still desire to upgrade the fox's rolling gear, and I finally found a set of wheels that fit several criteria:
- Cheap
- 5 lug
- quasi-uncommon on a fox
- free of rash

So, I listed the wheels/tires off the fox for $300 expecting to give them away for $150. Within 5 minutes, I had 3 cash offers for full price and they were gone. Whoops.

So anyway, I make an offer at $180 for these ultra-clean 35th anniversary wheels and the dude accepted:

So now, I've got to convert to 5 lug. I think I'm going to initially poor boy it and buy the 5 lug kit with drums from LMR for $260 and some Mark VII discs for the front - just to keep it off the jacks and driving. The woodwork side hustle is getting busy and that means $$$ coming in.

Those are clean, and definitely an uncommon wheel.

If you go with the cheapo rotors up front, the center cap won't mount up. You'll need a spacer.
Yeah. I have a solution (or two) for that that I wouldn't dare post pics of.
Allen (@Boosted92LX) has a set of SN spindles for me that I could swap in just the same. You dont REALLY need to upgrade the MC or do any of the other stuff unless you go disc in the rear, right? Like if I kept drums in the back short term, I could just swap the SN spindles and call it a day?

There really is no solution to an MC with drums out back other than the stock MC. The 4-wheel disk MC's are too large and will result in a hard pedal.

You can keep stock MC and booster and have two options for the closest to stock pedal feel.

99-04 GT 10.8" 2-piston brakes will be slightly softer than stock

99-04 Cobra 13" brakes will be slightly firmer than stock.

Stay away from the earlier 94-98 cobra and 94-98 GT brakes. The pedal feel will be way off.

It think it's a concession I'm willing to make short term as the brakes I have are 94-95. The end goal is to have 13" fronts and 11.65" rears, which I'll replace everything then. it doesn't really get driven much for now, I just need it to roll mainly.

I don't think it will get driven at all till you finish the trans swap...

I'm waiting on my mounting kit for my Brembo upgrade, hopefully get it in the next few weeks then I can "upgrade" from my Cobra setup to the Brembo and I'll let you know which I like better. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be way overbreaked for my front tires though, they are old and need to be replaced, I can already lock them up fairly easily right now.

All I heard was you're pulling cobra brakes off and probably need somewhere for them to go. :D

In all seriousness, I was looking at Rock Auto. you can get a cobra setup (sans lettering) for under $300. I think I'd go that route since its all new and it's really affordable.

There's a guy on Corral that needs my passenger front "Bear" logo'd caliper to replace his that has stripped threads, so I told him he can have first dibs but needs to buy both front's together and he can do whatever with the drivers side Cobra logo'd one. The Brembo calipers off the ATS are like $120 each on rockauto.com, same rotors you'd already need, etc... Then you could choose to buy the kit for another $175 to mount them or drill the spindles and machine a bit off them for no extra money. Essentially same cost for a fixed 4 piston Brembo caliper.

So in a creepy twist, I just got an email from LMR saying the axle package I want is in the flash sale for 10% off (code: foxflash)

Do I buy the clutch or do I go for the axles? I need them both to drive the car again...

Wow, that's awesome. I'd like that a lot more.
