What are you binge watching/playing for the apocalypse?

Boo!!!

Burned through (or am currently burning through...or in some cases, Re-Burning through...)

Ozark
Narcos
The Umbrella Academy
Altered Carbon
Sneaky Pete
Justified

...even dusted off the old PS3 and decided to replay some games.

I can actually hear myself getting fatter by the second. Maybe what I should be dusting off is my treadmill?
Dang! It’s Brian! How you been?

Good man, thanks for asking. Sold my Stang a while back and got back onto two wheels. Don't think I've checked in here for a couple of years?

I'll get another Stang again one day, but no more big project cars. Spent more time wrenching on the last one, than driving it! For me, the biggest project for my next one might be putting seat extenders on an S550....and maybe a blower? ;)

Since we're all under quarantine right now and looking for stuff to do, I thought I'd lurk over to the old SN Stomping grounds for a bit. Hard to believe I've been a member here for almost 2-decades?!? :O_o:

Mmmmm...if I were French Canadian, I guess I'd call it "Le Quarantine"?

...but since my roots are Irish/English,I suppose it's just an excuse to drink warm beer?

Look at that....not back 10-minutes and I'm already derailing a thread!?!

HEY, GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK! Honestly, I've been gone too long, too. :)

I read up on why they canned Sneaky Pete. Basically, it was to make room for newer, flashy shows that would draw in new subscribers. Netflix and Amazon are starting to catch crap over the practice, but they're both starting to do that a lot i.e. ending a series well before it's even close to jumping the shark. They claim that they're trying to put on new shows to attract new subscribers. They're also looking at doing "more inclusive" shows i.e. generic shows that pull in a bigger number of people instead of targeted shows to bring in specific crowds.

I've heard this, as well. It's a lot cheaper to make a new series every 2-3 years instead of keeping even a popular series because the popular actors want more and more money. The things read more or less said that the difference in salaries of a "starting" show and a successful show being renewed can be astronomical . . . .PER EPISODE. So, much like music, it's cheaper to have a bunch of one hit wonders than it is to keep around big stars.

...and that's how we end up with crap like V-Wars and Tiger King! lol Does make sense, I suppose? Though it would be nice if they "wrapped up" some of these series people have become invested in, instead of leaving them open the way they do.

We have some toons started on classic. We started with vanilla years ago. We played a long time, quit, and then restarted a couple of expansions ago. We have several at terminal level, but we've been playing some "little" ones, just for fun on retail.
Wow... I mean... WoW! I played back in 2009 or so, is that the "Classic" you're talking about? I didn't know there were "Generations" of WoW now.
I only had one character that reached L40, but I had 5 or 6 other characters I messed around with, ALL different types! :jester:
I'm not even sure my current desktop would even play WoW, and I don't really have time any more for long campaigns.

Anyone know a fun, fairly easy game, FPS or Hack n' Slash, where I could jump in, play for 10 to 20 minutes, and just have a lil' fun for a stress reliever? :dunno:

Truly.

I wish they would have given Kevin Spacey enough time to finish House of Cards before he was exiled out of Hollywood, honestly. That's the last show that REALLY grabbed my attention. The ending they did was, eh . . . meh . . . especially considering how great the series was from the start.

I haven't seen anything that's really grabbed me like House of Cards did in a while.

Anime satisfies many aspects of life. May cause Carpel Tunnel Syndrome though
I watched some of One Punch Man . . . that was pretty good. And I watched some "kid friendly" ones with the grandkids. We watched the one with the Catbus in it. That was friggin' great, man!

Did you see they're going to make a live version of Cowboy Bebop? They'd better not screw that one up.

And I've heard they're looking at a live version of Kim Possible. I don't see that one happening. There's practically NO real female as hot as Kim Possible. :D

I have watched the Movie for Kim Possible it was not bad. Defiantly can be better if they make it into a series.

** Cowboy Bebop would be awesome as a live action.

** Never got into One Punch Man

** Castlevania though is just what I expected and has a new season I have not checked out yet.

** If you can watch this one without little ones around. Check out "Seven Deadly Sins" I don't believe there is any nudity, but the context is very subjective. The story line is great and easy to follow. It kept me interested in the characters and looking for the next episode.

** Another one like this is "Helsing" the Abridged Versions are more adult I hear, the regular episodes are well again subject matter especially between Alacard and "Big Titty Police Woman" which is what he usually calls her. She has a name and she keeps telling him that but Meh, he is accurate in what he calls her.

Classic . . . when I started playing classic again, I was reminded about how friggin' hard WoW was years and years ago. I mean, it's fun . . . and a lot more "gratifying" than retail, but cripes it's tough. There are some things about retail that I like and miss, but for the most part, I like Classic better. Of course, I spend as much time travelling as actually playing, and I REALLY miss group finder, but group finder makes things too easy. I got bored one day and made a priest on retail. They have that 100% exp boost for Covid right now, right . . . and in about 2 days of CASUAL playing, I was like at level 45. I mean, it was NOTHING once I got big enough for group finder. I did 5 levels in an instance once. It's cool and all, but meh at the same time.
I played from the launch of BC through to the big patch before Cata, sat out Cata, played MoP, played part of Legion before Pathfinder burned me out, never went back to retail.

There are certain things I miss from future expansions while playing Classic. Flying is one, dual-spec is another (especially as a resto shaman), but I don't miss the bull:poo: that replaced talent trees, focus (my main was a hunter through Wrath, then I became a resto shaman), or the "disposable" mentality that players had for each other after LFG and LFR became a thing. I didn't even buy BFA, and I don't see myself buying Shadowlands, especially if BC Classic becomes a thing.

I'm almost ashamed at my time on WoW. At one point in time, my life got so warped that work was actually my escape from WoW. LOL! When we started playing, I was in a 4-10's job, so I could start playing solid Thursday night. It was pretty ridiculous. Even worse, Lisa was playing, too, and she got serious about it.

The game is really . . . well engineered to trap people. They people who designed the game studied other MMO's and RP games to see what people liked and why they quit playing. Basically, it's like the Matrix . . . if you make everything wine and roses, people get bored. They have no sense of accomplishment, so they made the game ebb and flow. And they learned to throw in things along the way that sidetracked you with rewards that didn't necessarily make you more powerful, but it was "cool". And probably the biggest twist of the game is that once you got to the "top level", it wasn't over. It just gets started. All of the truly difficult and rewarding content opens up then, so you're sort of "renewed" if you will. Think of it like a video game / sim where you start out as a 6 year old kid in pee wee football, and you THINK then end of the game is when an NFL team signs you . . . only you find out that when you sign the contract, that's actually the BEGINNING of the game, and everything you learned to that point was just preparation. That's what the engineers at WoW did. When you hit level 60 (back in the day . . . it's 120 now), tons of new and progressive content opened up. It was really well thought out and designed to maintain interest and clients . . . for $15/month.

It's evolved a lot over time, and they've taken out a lot of the difficulty. And new players who start a subscription get a "free" character that's already leveled up to almost terminal. I get it because starting at level 1 with no other toon would be demotivating. Still though, the game now is stupid easy, and if you have a friend or two to play with, there's not much challenge at all. And since you start out with a "big" toon now for new players, you have money to gear up anyone you level.

The game has lost a lot of that sense of accomplishment, really. The "generations" are based on what expansion was out at the time. "Vanilla" is the first game, and that's what "Classic" uses, now. I think they've had 5 expansions and are about to drop another one. Vanilla was tough. There were raids that required 40 people play as one team, and they HAD to play as one team. Even worse, that was back when the intrawebz wasn't nearly as fast. LOL! You fought data transfer speed as much as anything. There was a lot to it because once you got "big", you ceased to be able to progress alone. You HAD to have friends in the game because all the advanced content requires 5, 10, and 20 person teams . . . and a couple of the early ones needed 40. In Vanilla, you couldn't just "sign up" to run those events. You had to have a premade group, so you had to earn friends and show people you were good enough to make it. And people had to be willing to "train" you on the events. It was really a small microcosm of real life i.e. you can get just so far alone. Eventually, you need other people, and sometimes those people came in ready, and sometimes you had to be willing to invest time in training them.

The later versions of WoW have "random" group finders, so you can just put your name in a hat and play events. There's no "social" needed, and anyone can do it. It makes the game a faster but lower reward thing.

If you're looking for an easy hack and slash, eh, the current version of WoW is pretty easy and mindless.
