Airbox would be 86-93, the inlet tube for the MAF is 89-93

So this won't be cheap to do? What else is new.

Ah, forgot about ‘86. Should be the same. Obviously the 86-88 air tube is for speed density cars.

Not sure about non-mustamg airboxes. Some are similar but not sure if identical

The ones latemodel resto sells are REAL shiny. They look cheap to me and just do not look right. I have stock airbox on all 3 of my cars. I might have some extra airbox stuff in my collection I will look around.

Geez.

Remember when $20 years ago we all joked that you shouldn’t throw your air silencer away because one day it would be worth something?

Sickening! So $100+ shipping for a stock box then the two connecting hoses with clamps and probably some more to add up to?? $250-$300 that's not cheap.

If only everybody driving a fox body mustang could see into the future....
They’d all have the Air box silencers still in place.
Theyd all have working AC.
Theyd all have the Cats still installed.
They’d all have a full exhaust system, and flow master would just be a nasty 10 lettered word.....

You can always try a trip to the salvage yard. 86-88 thunderbird v8’s, possibly Lincoln Mark vii’s might have the same Filter box housing with the rubber intake tube as well.

A quick search on car-part.com returned a lot of results on an 87 thunderbird. Might be the route to go...

incidentally it showed the mustang and mark vii interchange so it is the same part.

But you made it a four letter and a six letter word? ;)

Stock air box, no silencer and a high flow panel filter, good to go.
You will read claims about the aftermarket cai netting 3-5 more hp but in reality does it really make a difference?
Yeah it does, they make it more difficult to monitor and change/clean the filter. You are placing an extra turn in the intake track, air don't like to bend/turn/change direction.
Just my opinion.

I like the looks of my BBK CAI.
But - the last time we had a hard, sudden rain, I found myself stuck on a street that was covered in water to the curbs. Even the overpass had a multi inch cover of water! Suddenly, the water was as deep behind and to the sides as straight forward. Most all of the cars also slowed down to a crawl. But some knuckleheads in jacked up SUV’s were having fun swerving around traffic to drown puny cars. When mine started to choke and sputter and choke, I thought I was going to have to buy a new motor! But the filter and MAF were able to dry off a little and keep going. No damage.
I do not know if the silencer or stock air box would have been better, but a snorkel like a Jeep or Toyota would have been good at least three times in the last year.
