Progress Thread Akumu No Dara Ra's LSX swap and build Thread! Updated (2/10/22 @ 8:30PM CST)

Like a lot commentators have said, brace whatever you get. Even stock Foxbodys flex a lot, and tend to tear rear torque boxes up. Whatever you get, check it REAL GOOD for rust in the strut towers, frame rails, torque boxes, and floorboards. These things rust bad.
Look for a good one and have fun. 30EF2F68-94B6-4C85-B929-AE90B0BCC72A.jpeg
Lucky for me I live in a place where we don't use salt on our roads because we're not equipped to salt the roads. It rarely snows but maybe once every few years here so the city just shuts down for a day instead.
Also I need to point out that I have decided to go with a 99-04 GT Manual coupe, leaning towards a 01-04 but I'm open to a solid 99-00 too. We have a 72k mile 01 miata for any topless shenanigans that might be desired. The reason I'd like a 01-04 is mostly because the transmission

Still putting a build list together but have at least altered my initial power goals and build.

Phase one: Get a quality, running, manual mustang gt

Phase two: Acquire and Swap the L92 and Transmission (and related), ensure proper fitment and drive for a while

Phase three: build extra motor on the side, setup for front mount twin turbo, air to air intercooler,

Phase four: finish and drive

Going to use recirculating instead of BOV, try to keep the car as quiet as possible using cats, resonators, and mufflers.

IIRC, Alabama doesn't have a decibel limit nor emissions, you need some sort of catalyst and muffler, that's it.

You might be better off going to a 5th gen forum for the bastard car advice. They seem to like swapped LS's into Mustangs. I'm not a fan.
The Sn95 is a better looking vehicle that aligns more with my goals, not to mention it weighs in about 600 pounds less stock for stock. I'll be nearly 900 pounds after the swap and ripping out all the interior pieces I don't want. (carpet? back seat? wtf is this?) That'll put me in the super high 11s with the stock L92 which is basically the same motor but about 10 less HP.

Anyway, back to the topic- I am 90% dialed in the phase 2 setup. The only piece is swapping the stage 3 cam (+70 RWHP or so) for a Stage 2 cam, I'm leaning for the stage 3 over the stage 2 which is about 25 less HP. LS3 cams and valves can be used in the L92 heads.

The below is sold as a package:
Texas Speed and Performance Valve Springs
Texas Speed and Performance LS3 3 bolt cam conversion kit
Texas Speed and Performance Pushrods
Texas Speed and Performance LS3 Stage 3 NA 231/246 Duration - 640/615 Lift - @111 Lobe separation angle Camshaft

The above nets me around 75 HP for under a thousand dollars, and then there's all the other bolt ons on top of it- Air Intake, throttle body, ported intake manifold, etc. from earlier. I should hit 600 HP pretty easily with a solid tune (bit less at the wheels)

These will be part of the stage 1 plan:
Flowtech 1 7/8 - 3" collector SN95 LS swap long tube headers
3" custom side dump headerback exhaust

Factory L92 engine parts: Block, rods, pistons, crankshaft, heads, intake manifold

Once i get adapted to the power, we'll start moving towards the twin turbos. that part is a while out (year or more minimum). I intend to start looking at twins.

The Miata is a good choice for a fun car. (If you fit comfortably.) I was bench racing/building and collecting parts for a 5.0 Monster Miata, and there are spec racing of them, just not near here.

I get why you are doing it. It's been done for years. I'm just saying you might find more info on that in a LS forum. Back in the day this was blasphemy and we'd ban all discussion. :D

I may have been one of The Outsiders at one point, but That Was Then, This Is Now.

I appreciate what you are saying, and I totally get where you're coming from. Sadly, there really aren't many active forums out there, and fewer i get along with people at on. At least this way I have people who might think along the same lines as I do or see something I did and go "That's a really good idea why didn't I think of that?"

IDK. Maybe it's just me but when I think of a car I go to the place to get the info on the body not the engine. My first thought is to check for forums with the make and model of the car i'm (considering) buying, and then go from there. If I don't like the community, I won't buy that car. It's actually why I refuse to buy an F-Body, too many bad memories that I am not going to subject myself to a second time. Since I like to attend car meets and BS with people about non-car stuff from time to time, I think it's important to consider that where I am now is thanks to people who pioneered the car to begin with, who went through all that trial and error to make a viable platform better.

Cars are all very similar. By posting a project/build thread on a car forum that relates to the original car but with a different engine, I can increase my knowledge on more than just the engine and how to mount it. I'd go so far as to say cars are like makeup. They all have the same goal, but each one has a different character. Some are better than others at some things. Just like you wouldn't expect to use lipstick as a primer, you wouldn't expect to win drag races in an stock, automatic chevy spark.

Gotcha. And I know what you mean about F-body madness. Although I only had the sixer version of an 01 Firebird, that damn car left my daughter stranded more times than I can count and me once. Bought in 2014 and I spent more money keeping it running than I paid for it. It seemed like a good car when I bought it. Only had 75,000 miles on it. But man it was junk. :notnice:

When i met my wife she had 120,000 mile 1996 forumla (LT1) with a T56. She couldn't see out of it and hadn't driven it a year so we sold it for the miata. it was nice once we got it running but... blah...

Haha, yeah I had a "booster" for my daughter. It was one of those gel back pillows.

I've had some experience with the LT1. Optispark was a sore spot for my car buddies.

Was that the one (LT1) that had the distributor on the front of the engine?
who thought that was a good idea?
Below the water pump, on the front. "Packaging." Later years with optispark 2 cars are good, early cars not so much.

Also realized i'm stupid and the 3.45 goes in the 7.5, the 3.55 goes in the 8.8. Gonna redo those calculations. READING!!!!

Close Ratio TKX 5 speed - 25.4" tire, 3.55 Rear end (7000 RPM).
2.87 1.89 1.28 1.00 0.68
1st: 51
2nd: 78
3rd: 116
4th: 149
5th: 219

With 800hp in a 3000 lb car, a 9 second quarter is basically perfect. Suck it, Toretto.

According to my wife:
"You're a typical girl, You don't know what you want."

Scrapping turbochargers and going to a high comp stroker with a big ass cam will still get me to 800 HP. Doing this with completely NEW parts will still cost less than a turbo kit on a stock motor as well. If i still am not happy I'll toss a nitrous bottle on it and throw a 200 shot on it and get silly. Now to figure out fuel and how silly I want to get with compression. 13.5 or 14:1 maybe?

Wanted to know, when i do finally get moving on this project, Is there interest in a write up with all the parts i use, pics of various stages, etc?

Cost wise, It's looking like I'm assembling an engine in my garage so I might as well.

With the car magazines mostly dead, I might as well learn something different.
Good attitude. Never a bad day to learn something new.

Sure, I thought that is what this thread was going to be.
It was more of a gauging interest. They'll probably be crappy cell phone pics but it'll beat having nothing. Time to clean out one drive since computers and I don't get along very well.

This post has been updated with newer info.

I may have found the car, but it's a 99 v6 for 2k. Guy just wants it gone. paint is destroyed but the body is good. How awful is a rear end swap on a 99? (8.8 beats 7.5 any day)

Edited cus i can now.

This is my 69th post. Nice!

Updated FIrst Post. now has the engine build (less fuel). Original plan was not feasible on 93 so I had to alter some things.

Various improvements, I'm looking closer to a 9 second NA car than an actual power number.
