Progress Thread 85GT4V’s “New” 1985 Mustang GT

I soaked my rusty iorn spindles in Evaporust for a few days LINK

They came out like this:

Then I hit them with some clear direct to metal top coat. What's nice about the Evaporust is you can keep in in a container and reuse it many times.

That came out [way] better than I would have thought they would. :nice:

You’re a brave man ! I don’t use water on foxes anymore. Just “waterless wash”.

Twice a year, mild foam (with distilled water) and rinse with distilled. Cloths/rags never touch the car. Distilled dries spot free.

“Waterless Wash” is great but, I’ve experienced scratches and less than perfect results with it. My paint can take it

Nice. I use the waterless more so to avoid water getting in areas that are prone to leaking or corroding as is. Like the t tops area

You shouldn't wash in direct sunlight but you can dry there.

In my mind, the "Put it away wet" moniker is not the best. I like to give them a little time to "cook" before going back in the barn.

Nothing gets washed around here in the Winter. To much snow and to damn cold.
I suppose if I ever got hot water run out into the garage I could wash one, but the resultant grit/sand collecting and trying to clog the drain would be a pita to deal with. Would definitely have to do it in the late afternoon, early evening so that it could dry overnight so the doors/locks would not freeze shut when you drove it the next day.
It is warm today...got up to 20*F from a low of 5*F, and only 3" of new snow.

Chemical Guys snow foam and a foam cannon for me. I waterless wash after maybe 1 drive when it doesn't need much more than a dusting. I have no idea how guys get away without using a drying cloth/microfiber towel. Any dust beads up on the car if I don't. Would like to better understand if there's a better technique.

I rinse with distilled water from a sprayer then hit it with a leaf blower. 98% of the water blows off and what’s left of the distilled dries spot free in the garage.

If your car has a decent coat of wax on it, take the sprayer end off the hose and just let the water flow out of it as you rinse the car... It will take most of the water with it and not leave any spots..

I haven’t touched 85GT4V since the picture up thread on New Year’s Day. My winter project was a complete suspension refresh on my other car. Shocks/struts, control arms, tie rod ends, bushings, and a bit of cleaning under there while I was at it…

After three months up on the quickjacks…I’m back on the road!!! Fresh alignment and a 100 mile shake down cruise. Just in time for spring!!

Now for some exercise for 85GT4V!!

I watched a youtube about a 83 911SC garage find on you tube the other day. Darn it looked nice... As a young man many years ago I climbed in a used 80SC on a lot and thought about it... My now EX Wife was in the car and shook her head no when I looked at her .. ( have I said how much I miss her?? )
Asking price was 15K for it...
The you tube car looked good and cleaned up very nicely... Got me thinking...... LOL... Looks like SC cars start at 95K now... Made up my mind on that .... I had heard the AirCooled cars went crazy in price
Enjoy your car...
