I recently did some upgrades to a 1992 GT 5.0 and the stock ECU isn't happy. The larger cam, heads and injectors have the AFR way out of whack. The car runs but is flat until you hit 3000 RPMS. Here is the list of upgrades:

TrickFlow R- Series Intake
MSD Ignition
Aluminum Heads, 185cc intake, 70cc Exhaust, 64cc combustion chamber, 2.02 intake valves, 1.60 exhaust valves
.499/.510 lift cam, duration 285/292, lobe separation 112 deg
24# ford injectors
roller rockers
larger throttle body
cold air intake
headers
smog delete

We basically did everything we could without stroking the engine. I didn't want to upgrade to a 9" rear end or swap the transmission and drive shaft. The car had 37k original miles on it and is MINT. I had the same car, year, color and trim in high school and regretted selling it. This was a "pre mid-life crisis" project! I'm looking for an ECU or chip that can be plugged into the ECU to maximize the upgrades and allow the car to run smoothly. Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Fuel Pressure? Timing? I see you are getting a MS, but car SHOULD run with that combo NO PROBLEM.

Ive seen MUCH BIGGER cam and injectors run on stock A9L. Are the capacitors ok.

Just asking because it could be something else causing trouble. IE New ECU might not fix it type of thing.

A tuning chip is indeed needed and fyi Moates still has what you need.

When you change even just the throttle body will cause issues.

Look up all the people on this forum who experience idle hunting and high idle issues after changing just a simple Throttle body

The part of the tune that controls the calculation of the true and new inlet flow is called MINAM and ITHBMA and no calibrated MAF can override the settings on the chip magically and fights with the ECU for control which is the constant switching between Open Loop and Closed Loop.

The other thing a calibrated MAF can't do is rewrite the NAF transfer setting numbers so when the flow at a certain voltage is showing higher than the numbers the engine tends to run very lean too ...So you get a rich at idle and lean while under load scenario...

Youre gonna need to remap your fuel injector timing tables to match your camshaft intake valve opening, change the idle speed adjustment settings and spark tables ....

I have a 1993 351w with stock F4TE camshaft, modded with a 90mm Lightning MAF. ,Twin 61mm Throttle body , 36lb injectors , Kirban Adjustable fuel pressure regulator , MEWagner adjustable pcv valve , 255lph fuel pump , AEM Wideband Controller tapped into pin 27,full emissions delete , MSD 6 box ..MSD TFI coil,.
shorty headers dual exhaust.,..

I had to totally rewrite my entire tune to match the mods and started with a S0Z bin file as it's already based without emissions with a zeroed out base sum address.

What's quite odd ,strange and kinda funny is all the ones stating their car runs awesome but fails to back it up with proof like a data log from a Wideband Controller ....

I have no issues proving the cause and effects of mods and their effects without adjusting the tune...

Back in the day dealerships that did performance tuning had these items called a StarTool that can adjust the parameters of EEC-IV ecus...

Good Luck

I’d start looking for a local tuner. Your modifications are about the same as mine, and a local tuner specializing in Fords put mine on a dyno and got it running nice. Then he installed a chip to keep the tune. I later had the ECU checked and some issues were found…probably need to go back to the tuner.

Check your Vacuum pressure and check for leak I have similar setup and using original ECU and car runs fine in all gears - after removing MSD 6al2 during tuning. Some of my components -
AFR 185cc SBF Renegade 20 degree Street Head, combustion chamber 50 CC, T5 rebuild, Comp Cam XE264HR, BKK 30 lbs air meter, BKK 70 mm Throttle body, ACEL 30 lbs injector, Trick flow Track Heat Black intake Manifold
