Anybody else experience transmission failure in your 05 yet? This gal in my office bought a GT stick shift it took a crap on her, and the dealer said there was a whole run of them like that.

I have a 5-speed manual with 1200 miles - no problems. What exactly happened to your co-worker's tranny?

Well this is her describing to me what her husband described to her.......

He was driving in town and it was hesitating or slowing him up like something was binding up. He stopped and put it in reverse backed up a bit, then tried to go forward and it made a sound "like when you put a card in the spokes of your bike when you were a kid". He stopped right there and called the nearest dealer which was in Spokane. They told him there was some bolt over-torqued in the tranny and a whole batch was like that. So far they have had seven failures they know of this being as of early last week. Ford replaced the tranny for them.

The failure and replacement is real, the description of the failure and what the dealer told them is coming second hand through my interpretation so take it for what it's worth.

It's a Ford, so I would not be at all surprised. The tranny is a carryover from 2004, so I would be surprised to see a significant number of failures at this point.

And what exactly is that supposed to mean! Are you some honda or chevy owner? The tranny that is carried over is pretty darn tough, nothing wrong with it, its the 01-03 3650s that had the shifting problems, but that was fixed in 04, probably so they wouldnt have any faulty trannies carried over to the 05 models.

Forgive my ignorance, but are you saying that the Mustang is not made by the UAW? Did Ford actually outsoruce the new Mustang? Is that how they built it so cheap? Who the heck is AAI? http://wardsauto.com/ar/auto_ford_marks_million/
Thanks, L.L.

YellowMach69 doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

AAI is Auto Alliance Inc. It is a Ford-Mazda jointly owned plant (interesting that it's "jointly owned" since Ford is the primary owner of Mazda). The plant also built the last gen Mercury Cougar. The plant is UAW. The Rouge plant (where the Mustang was previously built) has been renovated and the workers who previously built the Mustang will be building other Ford products such as the new F150.

I'm sure there were, but the question is how many weren't caused by abuse.

You're an idiot. If you want your stang being built at DAP then you might be the only person in the world. DAP was the oldest frickin plant that Ford still had running. They built PT boats there during WWII. The floors there are cobblestone and you can hardly see because the lighting sucks. All the tooling there is ancient (hence the bad build quality on the SN95). The best thing Ford could have done was to move mustang production to AAI down the road. It's a newer plant, has excess capacity, is still UAW. I'm sure the new mustang will have much better build quality than the last.

So what? It's still a Ford plant and the workers are UAW. Bottom line is you don't know what you're talking about.

Wow, you work for Ford or something? You seem kinda sensitive. Of all the cars I have owned, only one has been non-Ford. So I can make any comments I want about Ford quality, and I have the experience to back it up .

If you read my post again, you will see that I said because it is a carryover from last year, I would not expect there to be a lot of problems. Meaning what ShadyRascal experienced is probably a fluke.

You need to untwist them panties...

Listen your not a autoworker and you dont get the info i get from the UAW.Id be happy to send you the info from the UAW, Newsleter and tell me why they say what they do.IM carrying over what i read.,there are ford workers who lost there job at original plants who were offered a job there ,Thats why Visteon workers are there also,Just like a said in beginning mazdas are made there and the ford probe,Did you ever try to buy parts for a probe??The plant is effient yes ,Its up to date and ford dumps lots of money into it to make it up to date. But it isnt the same as a fordplant. Its only affilaited with ford, and ford partionally owned.
And as for tranny i havent heard any problems .And yes cant wait to get my mustang !!

Yes, I owned an 89 Probe and currently own an 04 Mazda 6. Never had a problem getting parts for either. However, I'm not sure what that has to do with the Mustang being built at AAI. Say what you will, it's still built in a Ford plant in the USA by UAW workers and not in a plant in Mexico or Canada (which could very well have happened).

It looks like a lot of you '05 owners that were dogging the Terminators for having quality problems are going to have to belly up to the bar now...

Face it, it's the first year run of a brand new platform and many problems are going to be found and fixed for the '06 models.

Us '03 Cobra owners know the pain because quite a few big problems were found with the '03's that were fixed on the '04's... thats just how it works.

They are awesome cars and Ford will work out the bugs... sure it might take a few trips to the dealer, but they will get it fixed.

Just curious, is Ford giving free rental cars to '05 owners when their cars are in the shop for warranty work? I know that is an SVT perk that I really like, but I wasn't sure if they were now doing it with the new Mustangs? They should do it since you guys are testing out the new platform for them...

What's wrong with vehicles built in Canada

All cars built in Canada are built by UAW workers, just like the Windsor engines (remember those?)

Nothing is wrong with cars built in Canada.

He was saying when Ford shut down the plant (where the stang was built) they could have moved it to Canada or Mexico... out of the USA ... USA workers out of a job... okie dokie??

Exactly. No slight against Canadian or Mexican workers and cars was intended.

In regards to the plant where the Mustang was built (the Rouge plant): it wasn't shut down but instead has been renovated and now builds F150s. So Mustang production is still in a US Ford plant and the old plant is still being used. I don't get YellowMach69s assertion that US UAW workers were screwed somehow.

All this is off the original topic so let's just let it die here.
