my buddy has a '95GT and hes got a vortech s trim coming. He wants to rebuild the 302 or put a 347 kit in.... hes looking at running 12-14psi though. What bottom end comonents should he look at getting? Also his compression is gonna be around 9.1:1 or lower. Should he do the 347 kit, and would it be safer with the amount of boost he wants? Thanks

also he has -TFS TW heads lots of port work done
-Kenne Belle cam (can't remember #'s on it, exhaust lift is higher
than intake side. both lift over .500)
-1.6 rr (he has 1.72's in the garage, he might use them)
-TFS intake (no porting, he might port it though)
-then the vortech s-trim SQ kit coming in mail (12-14psi)
-Tremec 5speed
what power you think he'll make? Will the 302 block be ok? what lower end changes to be safe?

The stock block won't last long. My friends 302 lasted two years with a stock rebuild/block and 14psi. He was able to tune it with an EPEC to make it last as long as it did. Split the block down the center, crank in half and so forth. It's a gamble.

i really wouldnt worry about the power your gonna make, but the block itself. the power level of the 347 should easily be in the 500rwhp range, but i wouldnt go that close to the limits. like sn9550 said, the tune really has a lot to do with it as long as how long it will last too.
if he wants a good motor built at a nice price, have him talk to rick at the link in my sig.

so if hes gonna use the 302 block, he shouldn't go that high of psi. is 9-10psi safely doable with the 302 block? and still make 400-500rwhp with the 347 stroker?

If i was your friend, i wouldnt got over like 8-10 psi. however, there is a good alternative, which is doing a 306 that will help, and then run the 15psi.

have him call Rick from my link and talk to him, he will set ya up. Tell him Nate sent ya.

well he's gonna build his own motor. Hes built many motors over the years, but never involving forced induction on a 302 block. He built my motor in my sig also. If he doesn't put the 347 kit in, he'll have a 306 anyway. Hes gonna do the full rebuild process. He has a buddy that runs a machine shop, so he can get the block bored, crank worked...anything like that he needs done. He's been talking with a guy from Anderson Ford. The guy says they have a supercharged 302 running like 12-14psi that gets ~500rwhp. My buddy just wants another opinion on what he should do about that much power on a 302 block and 347 bottom end.

He's built a 460 that went low-mid 10's 1/4mile on nitrous. but thats a larger/stronger block and all. Thanks, I'll see if he'll call Rick. We live in Missouri, so thats a long distance call....

if he's using a stock block he would probally be better-off going with a 306 than a 347 for reliabilitly purposes.

PSI doesn't mean crap. If it is built good with the right heads, cam, and intake... the 347 NA could slit the block no problem. You want to keep it under 500 rwhp. You could make 500 rwhp on 5 psi of boost. All psi is is backpressure, and backpressure is no good. You want to make the most power possible on the lowest amount of boost possible.
