Hey, I am about to purchase some tires and wheels, but after researching many wheels I've changed my mind about getting 15 inch wheels and I'm leaning towards 16's. Will 16X7 225/50 fit on a stock 66, except 620 springs, without rolling fenders. And if they will fit, which backspacing would be best. Also, if anyone is running this setup could you please post a pic.
Thanks

16"

16" will fit and so will17" .............but....the backspacing has to be correct. If you turn your rim upside down and lay a straightedge accross it...then measure from the straightedge to the inside hub of the wheel that will determine backspacing.
Ask someone here for the thread that deals with what rims and backspacing will fit our old mustangs....I have seen it many times but don't have a copy to send you.
* also it will make a difference if you have stock disc brakes on the front or not as to whether certain rims will fit!

For a '65-'66 you want 4.5" backspacing on a 16" X 8" wheel. If you go to a 17" X 8" wheel you can go to 4.75" backspacing.

The general consensus here is:
16" X 8" wheel with 4.5" backspace; 225/50/16's on all four corners
17" X 8" wheel with 4.75" backspace; 225/45/17 front and 245/45/17 rear

You may have to do some minor grinding or rolling of the fender wheel well lips, but not much.

IIRC, dodgestang.com is the site that has info/charts on wheels, backspacing, etc.

I checked out the dodgestang chart and my setup is not listed for working with 16x8 225/50, since I have stock brakes. Has anyone used this setup with no problems.
