To make a long story short, I blew my rear up in August 2003 with a hard launch on slicks. I bought new 31-spline Moser axles and a Detroit Truetrac in January 2004 and lost complete interest in the car. I finally decided it was time to get the car out on the road again, so over Christmas, I started working on it. I just got it done yesterday.

Just to note, the installation of everything went very well. No snags - nothing. I set the backlash EXTREMELY tight (0.006") on purpose. It was a bit on the loose end the first time and it ended up nicking up some of the ring gear teeth when I blew it up. With this differential, because of it's clutchless design, you don't need that nasty smelling friction modifier and you HAVE to use synthetic oil (Mobil 1 = 10 bucks a quart. :notnice:).

So....yesterday, I screwed everything back together with all the new junk in it but couldn't tear around because it was raining like a mother. Today I took it out and put about 25 miles on it.

The Truetrac seems to be VERY good quality. With all the cones and gears, I thought it would make a little bit of noise - there's absolutely none. No pops or bangs around tight turns and it doesn't hang up at all. Even when it locks up, it's not violent or noisy.

The real test comes with a 6700 RPM launch on slicks. :D

Congrats Joe! Always nice to see a stanger get one back on the road. Now the bug will bite you hard and you will be dumping tons of cash into the car. :nice:

You are a wild man - 6700 RPM launches. :hail2:

Hey Joe !!!

WTG Joe! I was getting worried that you may be getting ready to sell the car since you haven't mentioned it in a long time. I bet I'll beat you on the 17 month downtime!

Does the car need anything else like a tune, etc?? I don't remember you having it running long before you broke the rear.

Sweet bro. It will be good to have the car back on the road! I havent been on here that much lately, just kinda getting parts together for this coming summer. I think around spring time ill be here all day everyday, lol.

congrats on getting the car together. I think there needs to be a post on time frame people currently are on Jackstands, I know i'm got to be close to the top of the list 1 car going on 3 years and another on 18months.

BTW whats your combo to be leaving at 6700? You leaving a 900rpms harder than I was.
What were you 60ft?

Thanks for the words guys. It does feel nice to actually drive the thing and I didn't even take it much past 4000 RPM when I did drive it. I was going to mention Grady since he always busted my stones about my car up on jackstands, but I figured he'd be in here to grant me my Jackstand-olgy PhD.:D

I honestly don't remember how much everything cost - it was so long ago. I'd have to check out bank statements which are back at my parents house and I'm at school now. I think the axles were in the $250 range and the rear was ~$400. It was very expensive, but it's something that most don't try so I decided it would give it a shot.

Paul, yes it does need a tune - I need to pass inspection in April and the car absolutely STINKS at idle without the cats. I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator that I may put on, but I would like to just start screwing around with my Tweecer again. In the future I'm going to bring it up to Kauffmans for a "set-in-stone" tune, but hopefully I'll be able to get it close on my own. When the time comes, which will be shortly, I'll be buggin' Grady for sure!

Oh, and Paul, I'll need these next 17 months to start chasing you down. I can't wait to see what's up your sleeve next! :D It's pretty cool to see Joe and all the others getting back into it - it actually gives the tech forum some life.

This is the ONLY picture I have of my car on my school computer. I will take more whenever I go to pick the car up from my parents house and wash it. Maybe this weekend...

The car is Dark Green, even though some parts look black.

I'll try to remember all the crap that's done to it....

Stock shortblock.
Stock T5 (that's hurting).
"Revised" Edelbrock Performer heads.
tmoss ported GT40 lower w/ Exploder upper.
FTI cam and springs.
Scorpion 1.6 rockers.
BBK 70mm TB.
ASP Pulleys.
76mm C&L MAF w/ C&L's provided CAI.
MAC shorty headers.
Prochamber.
Magnaflow catback.
3.73 gear.
31-spline Truetrac & Moser axles.
Tweecer R/T.
Hurst line lock.

The suspension is bone stock and I only plan on getting a set of full length SFC's and some upper and lower control arms. I'm not dumping much more into the car.

The interior and exterior of the car are bone stock. I don't have any aftermarket gauges, seats, nothing. I LOVE the sleeper look, but it's too bad the sound of the camshaft gives that away.

The car shifts somewhere around 6500 RPM, but I figure why not zing it off the line even harder since the slicks and the gear are going to pull it down considerably. The cam Ed gave me is VERY aggressive, and he said it should have no problems getting me into the 11's, but that means I need to learn to drive first. :bang:

Be happy to help when you are ready :D ... if I can

Good to hear Joe. I need to do my rear as well with 4.30's and good 31 spline shiit. If your combo makes power to 6500 I think you need more gear like a 4.10/4.30. Especially since your cars a heavy boat :D I wonder if a ported rpm manifold will be good for you (more so when you gear the car properly)
