thats a nice stance,looks great. i agree with you ,17s would be the max for me as well. i kind of like to see some tire. the taller the rim the less tire. there is a crown vic runs around my area,must have 20s on it . it reminds me of a coverd waggon.the wheels are so big they look like waggon wheels ,or one of those antique big front wheel bikes. also the less the side wall the harsher the ride.
I like to preach that those lame 17" plus wheels have no place on a 65-6 car. All I can do is laugh. Say what you like that would be negative. But they do not belong. Some cars may benefit from a 17. iskwezm car is an example. Dont know the guy, but it seems his car requires it. For you guys that think for some WIERD reason they need 17, 18 or whatever on the 65-6 frame, all I have to say is whats under the hood? I mean if you have a motor that needs that kind of tire, ok, well maybe. but the fact that I preach is that you people make a joke out of these cars.
My car used them quite well. Low 10's @131mph 1.44 60' was the best pass on them.

Personally, I've been curious what 17s up front and 16s on the rear would look like. You wanna swap those and take another pic? Prolly not, huh? I love my 16s, but will have to go 17s up front if I want a 13" rotor. I wouldn't bother, but no power brakes with Webers and I wouldn't mind a bit more braking power.
I'm firmly in the "nothing bigger than 17s" camp. 18s are pushing it on a classic. I went with 17x8 up front and 17x9.5 in the rear. I rolled the lips but it didn't take anything else to make them fit. 17s look good without looking out of place. IMHO, past 17s they start standing out in a way I'm not fond of.
I'm firmly in the "17's are just right, anything else is too big" crowd, but I got offered a set of 18" ASA Revolution rims with tires for a price I absolutely couldn't pass up. I'm going to try them on my '68 Coupe, and if I can pull off the look, I'll keep them, if not, I can resell them easily. I'll try and post a couple pics if I can get them mounted this weekend.
Here are a couple mock up pics, 18" ASA Revolutions with 225/45R18's. I really wish I had the rear axle installed and the car on the ground so the front wheel wasn't hanging down. I think the car pulls off the look quite nicely, I was worried that they would look too big. I don't know if that's as far as I'd lower the car, but we will see.
My son and I like the chrome wheels. Can you give me wheel brand and part number? What size tire? Is it hard to roll the fenders?
I need help learning: So, these wheels have 4.5 backspacing. Did you need to install a spacer? I saw Edbert's site and he said he had 1.25 inch spacers (and is glad he did not opt for the 1" spacers) for his 17 x 8 FoMoCo wheels on 67 GTA. What is the backspacing requirement of the 66? Will any wheel that is 17 x 8 with 4.5 backspacing fit exactly the same or would "offset" need to be considered? So a wheel with backspacing of 5.72 inches would make it closer to the inner side than a wheel with 4.5 backspacing, right?
I like the rear height of yours. Our 66 sits lower in the back. What are the options? Air shocks, replace or add leaf springs, modified or replaced suspension?
