It's not a CHP car. It has the original paint on it. Over the years all inhave done is swapped the rear for a 3.27, added Mac mufflers (had none when I got it), welded in cats, 5.0 shifter, new clutch, rebuilt the t5 myself, b springs, Moog front end parts, sport rack, and the ponies as it originally had 10 holes. I kinda wanted to keep the 10 holes but I bought the ponies for a really good price and sold the holes for near the same.

It's been sitting for a while due to other project and cars that have come and gone. I really need to show it some attention.

Mosquitoes are in full effect. I finished getting pieces for my trans cross member. But I needed to get the rear end from the crown vic in there so I'll have a good ride height for trans and pinion angles. I started to unbolt the rusty rear end and it was taking a breaking bar to get the nuts going. Then I figured this was taking too long and causing me to swaet more than I wanted to. Since I have new hardware anyways, out came the cut off wheel.

So out came the old rear and the sun went down. I got the new rear in place and will get it bolted in there tomorrow. Not sure if there is a market for an old rear end from the 56 but it'll get posted in the internet as well as the old wheels.

Got the new rear end in there and BAM! Sits up like a four wheel drive. Going to have to run spring under axle. So, 60 years of crud I had to deal with to get the axle pins out. PB blaster and hammer....... Yup, ruined the pin bolts. Got the leafs down and that's about all I had the patience for. I started to pull the bolt/pin that holds the springs together and stripped one of those. Patience ran out so I let it sit for the night. Going to need a few parts to set this up right. I want to four link it but it just isn't in the budget.

New pins and we are all set:

As you can see the old ones werent going to cut it. In fact, I had to use a cut off wheel to cut the drivers pin out.

Both sides loosely bolted in.

All bolted up. I set the pinion angle slightly up but it isn't permanent. Nothing welded in just bolted for now. The springs in the rear are pretty stout. I may have to remove a few leafs to get it at least semi comfortable. Also may need lowering blocks to get the rear to match the front.

I got the bed on semi straight (not bolted down) and the crown vic rear end close to center. This is what I found:

Yup too wide. This is a 2004 crown vic rear end. I've hear the late nineties (maybe older than 02?) rears are narrower but I can't attest to that.

I was thinking I could just narrow it and be good. So I got an estimate from a shop and ............ Approx. $700...... Yeah..... No ! I forgot the exact break down but it was something like this: $250 to narrow housing, $500ish for new custom axles. Ummmm the crown vic didn't cost this much ha.

So my next option , off to the pick and pull. I researched and found 96-01 (or close to that) have a disc brake rear end on leaf springs. 02 and up I think are coil springs. So 45 min at the explorer and I dropped this down:

I dropped the crown vic axle out and popped the explorer rear in there. Just a note, the spring pads on the explorer are too narrow to fit on the f100. I have my unmounted spring pads that I mocked up the CV rear so it won't matter.

I have more room to run a wider tire now. I may add an additional inner wheel tub for a decent tire.

Nothing new on the truck. Az 118 weather takes the wind out of your sails. I did get a long awaited package thought for my 65 mustang.

New driver side floor pan. Don't need the whole thing but that's how it came. Also got some new door handles fory 1990 gt roller. A few weeks prior I received the 22 gallon gas tank for the wife's 65 as well. Very shiny.

I bought some roller wheels and cheap tires to fit. The CV rims have a really high offset that cause the rim to rub the bed. These have a more traditional offset. Need to cut off old spring perches. I wanted to roll it into the garage and start on the motor mounts but the parts to my Mach 1 didnt get here until this afternoon so that is still taking up space in there.

Love those old Ford trucks ,there is a guy here in town that has 3 56s taken apart in his front yard but will not sell them .I will keep bothering him and he will either shoot me or sell me one
A friend of mine has a 2005 Crown Vic with only 50.000 on it for $1,000. its wrecked but the running gear is still good and if i get a hold of one of those 56s , the whole thing will be swapped in . I have had several old ford trucks but my favorite is the 35 .I have two ,and a couple of 36s and a couple of 37s .All my 35 needs is paint and interior ,i just wish i had the time to finish it .

Did you use any of that 3m epoxy? I'm going get some wheel tubs for the back and the website says to use it versus spot welding them on.

They must be speaking about there panel bonding adhesive. It really is some strong sht. That said, I would still tack weld it at least at the corners.

I was going with Dan carpenter rear tubs. They say to weld the ends but the other is the 3m stuff.
