If the trunk weighs 40 lbs, do I need two 20 pounders, or do I need two 40 pounders? I decided I'd call and ask.

I called Lift Support Depot. The nice lady informed me that she was not an engineer, and that they could only recommend a starting point because of that. I told her I understood, and asked for her recommendation. She said the recommended lifting force for a strut that could be mounted at the mid point of the trunk would need to be capable of lifting 1.5 to 2 times the rated weight of the trunk. Each strut.

That meant that I was looking for a strut that was rated at 60-80 pounds of lift force.

While that seemed excessive to me, I took her advice, and went to my local mom-and-pop auto parts store, and found two that would work (25.00 ea.)

I already had 4 10 mm ball studs from some earlier project, so my all-in total for the project was 50 bucks.

I did have to make the lower mount brackets, and I made those out of 1/8th plate, cut at a wonky angle, and folded at 90 degrees. Originally, I riveted them to the lower trunk rail, but after putting the system in use, decided they flexed too much, so I welded those pigs in there, and made some little out riggery dudes to help support the base mounting point.

I only rosette welded them in, I wasn't too keen about having rivets through the drip rail of the trunk.

They work.

They do push the alignment out of shape, just like the redline hood struts do, but I was able to compensate for that by readjusting the trunk. NBD at this time, cause it's all coming back apart at paint time anyway.

Next I'll work on the remote trunk release for the trunk, because I welded the trunk lock hole shut.

So, now that I can do this for the trunk, ill be doing it for the hood as opposed to spending 100.00 for 50 bucks worth of stuff.

I really like this point, Mike. Despite other remarks I'd like to see more of it when you get it together. I've had a set of redlines for my lemming hood in the package for over a year, but never installed them after seeing all of the problems with them.. Besides, I have too much other crap to actually fix. Maybe one day..

So there I was... Minding my own business when see I the JC-Whitney catalog scroll by as I work my way to the bottom of the page. Not to worry, my Microsoft Trackball is pretty precise so it's used to quickly acquiring a target mid screeching halt. I'm working on a couple of project teams and often bounce between projects and SN. I figured that I had a minute or two and certainly there was something in these images that I could use.

So copy, paint, paste.... I add stuff as it comes to me during idle time. You know, just staying active whilst other stuff is simmering before it needs attention again. So in a nut shell... You provided me with a good distraction while I was actively working some other things.

The Horns came in today.

I really wasnt into doing much, so mounting those things fit the bill.

I cheesed on mounting them, I cheesed on wiring them. I simply bolted them to the I/C mount pads, and used some crimp connectors.

I've kept the pic as narrow as possible to keep Noobz working on what he gets paid to do, as opposed to what he doesn't.

Anyway, I get them installed, and because I want to be sure they sound like I hope they sound (european), I hook up the battery.

I press the horn button, (in my car I press in on the T/S lever) and this is what it sounds like:

I get nothing.

Evidently, I neglected to ground the horn circuit w/ one of the remaining wires that are now just taped up, and stuffed under the dash. so the actual "button" that makes the horn work doesn't work like it's supposed to. ( Kinda like Noobz cuttin' and pastin' at work, instead of doin' what they pay him to do)

But I still want to hear the horn.

So I get a 24" piece of scrap 12 ga wire, and tag one end of the wire to a known hot lead. The other end gets tagged to the lug that the horns are hooked to.

FIAMMMMMMMM!!!

The cat has a grand mall seizure right where it was laying.

After I cleaned up the mess where the cat was laying, I disconnected the battery, perfectly happy w/ the way they sound.

Now all I gotta do is find out which one of those loose wires actually complete the horn circuit.

See,....all you really had to do was search about 50 pages back to see that that cat survived that event, w/ only missing toenails, and a completely hairless side as a result.

This is a new cat. 6 months old, he hasn't yet learned that the thermo nuclear reactor that he lays underneath may one day rise to bite him.

Today, he learned that the hard way. I'm thinking the stains from him soiling himself will have to grow out.

That's two cats Kreskin.

Not "a lot" by any means. Both are house trained. ( as in they go outside of the house to do their business), not filling up a box of kitty litter w/ future doggy treats.

The partially bald cat is ancient. (I'm thinking she "sat next to Pharoah" old) so two will become one soon enough.

Something that I'll never quite get. The dogs absolutely go into a feeding frenzy when we're eating dinner,....slobbering, drooling, and praying that some morsel will hit the floor. How they can put cat doogers in the same category............I guess I'd have to be a dog.

The one dog has a selective digestive system. He sticks his head in the thrash can, and eats stuff that would kill him if he passes it. (I.e. aluminum foil)

But the next day,........he'll hack that up in a neat little pile, w/o any of the stuff that was originally in the foil.

It's like he has some little recyclin' dude in his stomach that knows where to send the good stuff, and where to send the bad stuff......................like foil,.....socks,........whole, uneaten baby potatoes.......

Gila Monsters have a stupid tail.

I cant tell you why a G monster drags that lump of meat around behind him.

Maybe it makes him seem longer.

Maybe it makes him seem more intimidating.

Maybe it serves some unseen benefit.

I just don't know.

My G monster has a tail.

It does make him seem longer.

I do think it'll be more intimidating w/ the thing on ther.

While I cant say that it'll add much of any benefit, it might.

Maybe it'll create additional down force.
Maybe it'll add to the cool factor.

Maybe it's just another stupid tail on a Gila Monster.

I just don't know.

For a hand shaped 1/4" thick piece of aluminum bar stock, I am feeling pretty good about the fit. While it might not look like it, that spoiler isn't just some 5" wide piece of straight aluminum bar stock. The trunk crowns up, and back. I had to cut this thing along a line w/ a hand held band saw (front and back) to match that crown, and the mounts are staggered so they follow the curve at the top. Then when all of the cuts were done, spend about two hours w/ a long sanding block smoothing out the wavy assed cut line.

. The thing is bolted on w/ 2 10-32 counter sunk bolts on each one of those 1/8" thick x 3/4 wide triangles. I'm ok w/those mounts too, I plan to mess w/ them a bit and maybe fill the corners in w/ some filler in the radius's, but other than that, the thing is very stout, despite the fact that it doesn't weigh jack.

I guess that I must've got lucky and got the struts perfect. at mid point, the trunk neither lifts, or drops. go a little more either way, and it does what it's supposed to, but on the lift support mount issue, that is one thing that I got right the first time.

The aluminum finish on the G tail is my next decision. The car will be orange. I think I'll paint that thing body color, along w/ the mounts so that they disappear somewhat. I did see a late model Challenger a week ago, and the duck tail on that orange car was black though,.......... I have decided that the tail light recess will go satin black, the bumper and the exhaust shroud will be body color as well. (Only the exhaust grate will be black).

Who thinks a Black G tail on orange mounts?
