Damnit Mike, you're my newest friend and only a few years older than me.

You MUST be fine or I'll have to go get that nasty thing stuffed up my wazoo as well (preferably after they cleaned it).

Seriously, hope things are good for you buddy, let us know.

You'll be fine Mike. Even if it does wind up being cancer, it's got such a ridiculously high survival rate, they treat it like taking out tonsils or an appendix, only they have a robotic procedure that leaves everthing functional when they are done. I'm a cancer survivor. I didn't have prostate, but I beat it. So, nothing to worry about man. Trust me.

Good gawd, hopefully not just like you tonsils, seems like that would be a longer route.

Hope all is well with you, Mike. Cancer scares the s hit out of me because it runs rampant in my family. I've lost too many aunts and uncles to it at young ages(all under 50 and all were my dad's siblings). I start getting violated by my doctor next year when I make 40. I have a lady doctor with pretty petite hands but I'm still not looking forward to it.

My prayers are with you that everything turns out ok. Maybe its just a bladder stone.

I'm betting you're just fine. At your age your body has mistaken "the ultimate driving machine" for something exciting enough to make you stand at attention. I've got a 5 year old, I just had to explain that erections are normal... This is the same for you if you're dating a super model, taking viagra, driving the ultimate driving machine, or close to finishing your next project... It's not cancer, it's just an erection. ( I SERIOUSLY hope my poor attempt at humor is correct, lost too many loved ones to that :poo:)

We'll call this "Mike's Midnight Update."

Got home from the dr. appt, and spent an hour sealing up the rest of the big openings in anticipation of primer on thursday.

Obviously, I still gotta deal with the engine bay. I'm conflicted on what to do here though,...The plan for the hood paint will be two tone, with satin black making up the majority, and orange following the body line that cuts a "V" on the hood. That body line flows right off the hood, and onto the cowl.

That's this body line to be precise.

The conflict comes in trying to decide what to do with that black paint already sprayed on the cowl. You can see a chip that;ll have to be feathered or filled, and it will have to have to be primed and sealed (Which will add thickness to the parting line between the black, and orange. It'd be great if I could wet sand the paint after the fact to level out that difference, but I cant. The satin paint cant be touched. What to do about that is a dilemma.

Just for shts and grins,...I'll add a shot of the orange tree I have growing in the corner of my garage.

And all this "fruit" w/o the benefit of sunlight.

That chip doesn't require you to reseal the panel Mike. Smooth it out, primer it, block it flat and finish with a finer grit like 800. Then spray the color over it. Easy peasy. No sealer needed over the finer grit sandpaper.

A little extra time, no big deal though.

Will you be going into the jambs with the orange?

If I were in your shoes on this one, I would paint the entire hood and cowl orange first.

Add the satin black afterwards, black will use far less material and leave way less material for a paint line.

See that's what I'm trying to tell you, You will be in my shoes on this one. Vicariously.

Yes, the jambs will be orange.

The orange first is the painters' perspective that I needed. I just thought that I was gonna have to spray whatever sealer I'm using on the rest of the car on the cowl to to keep the color consistent. The portion of the cowl is so small that will actually see orange,..it seems crazy. But I agree, black will cover way faster than the orange will.

If you feel more comfortable having the sealer underneath for color match, just over reduce it by about 5-10%. I can't tell you how much for sure, I'd need to see the viscosity of the sealer first to see what I would do.

If you over reduce, watch for two things: 1. Allow it an extra five to ten minutes flash time before putting the orange on top to allow the solvents to escape. 2. Pay close attention when shooting the vertical panels to be sure it doesn't run. From what I've seen so far, I don't think you'll have much of a problem there. I would even suggest you could probably slow your application down a little to reduce what minor peel you have.

Over reducing will help reduce the size of the orange peel and at that small of a percentage, it won't effect the coverage in any noticeable fashion.

This'll be a first. An update with no downside.

Over the last few weeks, I've been trying to get the body ready to prime. Over the last few days, I've been masking it so that could be done.

Today,....the Monster turned grey.

Things didn't start out too well,....even though I followed the mixing instructions, and use the right stuff, the primer didn't want to spray. I was literally spraying sand. It didn't take long for me to realize that it was needing some thinning, so I did that and stuff started happening like it's s'posed to.

I got down one heavy coat, and stopped. I wanted to sand the Sahara desert off the drivers quarter before going further, so I waited a coupe of hours, and blocked the whole car. When I started back at it the stuff flowed out famously.

Now if I was a painter by trade, I would've known better than to work towards the middle of the quarter, and I wouldn't have the dry spray you see in the middle. But that stuff litterally wipes off with a scotch brite pad, so I'm not too concerned.

Compared to the red car, where I let a "friend" finish the body work and paint it, this car is hands down straighter than the mess that guy handed me when he brought the red car back to me.

Excepting the Gila gills where you can see some slight wonkiness, the car is very straight. And when you consider that I hacked a gigandor hole in the quarter in front of tire, and welded the G gill in there, and welded the body line closed behind the tire, I'm pretty pleased with myself for getting it so nice, all things considered......

The one thing that did go wrong isn't the end of the world...

Sanding dust. In the primer. As I was coming around to the back, I must've missed some little pile, and when the gun started spraying,..that junk just went everywhere. At least it's just dust, and not dirt, and it's in the primer,.....so....things could've been worse.

The two "issues" that remain that stand in the way of paint is the rear most quarter extensions,....They are just all kinds of wacko.

This one needs the body line to be brought up....

And this one kinda needs some definition, and brought down a little.

But that's it. I'm gonna add a little glazing putty to them and hopefully I can get them to fall in line. I'll block the body using a guide coat, and see if it's as straight as I think it is,..and the Monster is in line to be Orange maybe next week.

@a91what is right Mike. Use the glaze for filling in scratches and pinholes. Rage gold is a good bondo, you probably know this already. Use guide coat on your bondo as well as the primer, it'll take more than just a taped line to truly make that line. Positive side, you're within an hour of being done with bondo!

Good job on the primering though. Almost there!
