I don't ramble too much in other people's threads that are like yours or Scott's because people from all over read them and my wasted talk might be thing that brings your thread to its 13,000 page and be too intimidating for your average Joe to take the time to read.

In spite of your self proclaimed average guy bs, you have a lot of knowledge that teaches the sub par guy like me. Sure, I know how to paint, but you have been instrumental in lots of the knowledge I have for the rest of the car now.

I expect the responses though. When nobody says nothing about nothing,...you wonder why you do it. (Must be the therapy)
Some things I say are intended to garner a reply and I get nothing...simple sht,..like "What do think about this?"

While the MPG thread continues into it's 85th reply....How many things can you do to get better gas mileage in these cars anyway?

I've been shut down before by a "select few" when I start a non-Ford/car specific thread,....so I have to keep "the off topic" stuff in here. I was just trying to solicit some conversation...and that was the topic of yesterdays thread update.

Us dumb guys don't want to ckog your thread with dumb ideas. Seems like you've been there done that so we leave the reply for the more experienced custom builders.

We learn stuff from you....like how to de-fur a cat....or what Gila birthing sacks look like. I personally even learned how to size a box to my head correctly.

I know nothing about half the stuff you're doing...but I'll gladly start inputting stupid ideas. When you blast me I promise not to be offended.

See that's the problem,..you guys think I'm gonna bite your asses for making some comment that I don't like, or wont adopt...

Ask Raggedy if there was ever anything that I told him no on that now has made it's way onto the car,...Or Iowa Nick,...
Keeping vigil to will the digital gauges off of the car,...
I take alot of opinions to task,..I throw alot of them out at the same time...

The gauges are on a short list. Although I really like them in this car,..the fuel gauge tells me nothing. (and just let me run out of gas ONE more time...) I cannot hear the LJK,..and that, my friends is not acceptable. Dash will have to come back off and a sound deadener will have to be added to the firewall.

The gears. I don't like the 3.73's (They'll be up for sale right after the move, so pay attention).. I'm puttin in a set of 3.31's., rebuilding the T lock,....maybe put one of those diff covers that nobody can see on the rear.

The suspension....For whatever reason,..I'm gonna build, and mount a torque arm, and convert the rear suspension over to a 3 link controlled by a Panhard bar....Maybe I'll get a chance to drive it at Barber Motorsports Park one day...

So plenty of junk in store for this Monster,...I'm not going away anytime soon.

Ok, here's my 2 cents.
You got the floor and toe pan covered, only thing left is the cowl area and the hood.
I will say from my experience with my diesel truck that it was quiet compared to the other trucks similar to mine, that is until my hood insulation went south, others also commented on the noise difference. I know you said that your hair dryer almost hits the hood but maybe you can work around it?
I also have dynomat from front to the back and it did wonders for the heat but not so the noise.

I'm kinda like Dave. Unless you're in here bashing or thrashing, sometimes when you're just posting your 'status' I figure there are other guys just getting started on the journey called reading this thread. Why add to the TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY plus pages! I think we I first saw it over on FEP, you were only around page 15-20. It's like watching a new highway get built or something. It's intriguing. You don't know exactly when they will get done, but you can't wait for it to open! I read your thread on the red car and was impressed. The Monster has blown me away.

And honestly, probably because I don't know a fly flick about body work...it's not the body work that I am in awe of. It's the fact you cut a hole in the side of the block...and basically made something fit on the engine that wasn't designed to go there. And you didn't have a CNC bridgeport. Just a drill press, a grinder, some hand tools, a welder and a lot of sweat equity.

And when you've run out of gas, out of oil, too much boost, etc, you haven't kept that under your hat. You've told on yourself time and again.

Go pack your chit and move already! We're waiting for this thing to go over 300 pages.

All that noise resonating off that big flat metal hood is sure to up the noise level. Will putting a blanket over the engine increase engine temps from less airflow ?

I worked in the generator house industry for a few years building those things that look like trailers on the roofs of big buildings. They actually house huge diesel back up generators. We used metal screen and yellow tight wound insulation on the walls and ceiling. Those things ran quiter than a church mouse....until you opened the door.

We incased everything except the big cooling fans...the white noise from them canceled out the engine noise.

New cars are fully incased....the engine covers have insulation under them, the hood, the belly pans, firewalls, and even the inner fenders....but they're quiet.

Personally, I think the " Monster " should make some racket.

I don't mind a little noise,...and you can definitely "talk" to somebody else in the car,...You just can't hear anything.

Except the clatter of the valves,...the knock of the pistons,...the roar of the exhaust.

When I try to listen to the audio system, You can only hear the shrill of the tweeters,...the midrange and mid-bass of the speakers in the doors are almost not audible.

Like I said,...the sound barrier(s) will get added, and I'll definitely add something to the underside of the hood.If I do that right,..it should end up looking good enough to call it "on purpose."

I was thinking underhood insulation and then I thought about my corvette. The "beauty" covers were heavily padded and intended to reduce valvetrain noise. LS engines are notorious for sowing machine noises and it seemed to work well up to the point I took them off.

You're crafty enough to come up with a less hideous solution.
