Do eet...
You could put a supercharger (they have intercoolers) on that takeout coyote and have almost 600 reliable horses
Late reply again.
Sounds like they beat you. Fascinating creativity and workmanship like nothing in the world, down the drain. Pity if you do, even allowing for your frustration.
Without question, you can make it a success if you want, in whichever way you want, but nothing else is "your" engine (nor the Monster's, I'd guess).
Or you're just moping again.
Dan
The Barra motor would be distinctive in itself. Higher cost notwithstanding, you could make it work as you have with the current motor.

With the Coyote, though they are more common (not nearly so as the LS), I think your take on a Coyote-powered fox would be distinctive enough to mitigate any "bellybutton" status that it may confer.

It'll be interesting to watch no matter which way you go.

And since you've al voiced an opinion ( which I greatly appreciate BTW). Let's say I wanna test the water, and see what kinda response/interest I can generate on the engine/engine trans if I were to sell it.
( Although I can't imagine anybody wanting this thing,..especially after they hear it up close)
But anyway,....if I were to sell it...where would I try this? Facebook marketplace, C/L, eBay? Anyplace I'm missing?
Excepting one path, The engine has to sell to augment the build of the new engine. The only exception where I'd keep what I had in place until time for the swap-y-doo would be a teksid block'd 4.6 out of a 96-98 mark VIII.

Fat chance on that happening.
But,...just as I say that,....I'm currently in a chat with a salvage yard that has one. MOF, there are several yards that have them.

And for those that don't know, the teksid alum block 4.6 4v is basically the same engine as a termi uses, minus the SC of course.
Mine would have two Chinee turbo's

99/01 Cobras have Teksid blocks, IIRC.
As does the mk8. Much in the same way a 2011 f 150 has a Coyote in it. The engine in the mk8 is the same block as the one that's in the Cobra. It still has something different than what's in the Cobra, and it doesn't command the same money. ...something different about the heads I believe. I also think that there is a fix for that.

You would probably attract more serious buyers on eBay than Facebook or Craigslist. I would still put it on all three. Odds are you won’t be getting to many messages from people who say they are interested in that engine and then just stop replying to messages. eBay for sure.

Throwing it out in case you come across one of 99/01 motors. Never know what turns up. The 99/01 C heads had a better port design that eliminated the need for the IMRC plates the 96-98 Cobras had. Not sure about the Mk8.

It's the Monster's birthday month. This month marks the sixth year I've had him.

I've never had any car for this long in my life...has to say something about this one I guess.

I finally solved the puke tank issue, but it took all day to do that. #1 there was no way I was gonna use that ugly assed thing I built out of cast iron pipe, despite the fact that it worked in its first iteration. ( besides it not fitting now that the different intake was on) The last pic of that morphadite looking thing was version 2. It became obvious to me that the engine was making a lot of water vapor when I took the ugly first gen version of the thing out and made it into the even uglier version 2, as there was clear water trapped into the low hanging loops of one of the hoses. The original version of that thing allowed that. So, not wanting to return any of that condensed water back to the pan I came up with a drain tube that would allow everything that condensed to drain into a remote reservoir. But again...the thing wouldn't fit,..and it was too ugly.

I have a low threshold for ugly, and I hate myself in the morning when I ignore that.

So,...yesterday was all about de-uglifying the puke tank and getting it mounted, routing the hoses to it and then taking that moderately ugly thing back off and painting it. All of that is done..

And it's still ugly...but it's under the driver side fender, with pretty -12 braided hoses going to it.

I'll put it in place for real today when I go back down there. ( maybe I'll even take a pic of that ugly little troll.)

I've only gotta re-adjust the 6 intake rockers that I completely loosened back when I was checking the ITB's for boost leakage, install 6 new plugs, and route a couple of vacuum lines, and I'm back to running status. All new stuff for me this time around, as I'm back to the old single tb and the OG intake. Now that the front end has all of that stuff back on, I have to say I like the look just as much as I did with the complicated ITBs..

Happy birthday month Monster,...you've made it past a milestone that none of the 47 cars that I've owned in my life ever did.

fortunately for me, this is the month that the monster was born. If I had to celebrate the actual day,..id still have weeks before he is born.
Good thing,..cause I still didn't turn the key today.

I just didn't make it.

But I'm there.

It's done...I just ran out of time..Dinner was calling.

The troll is done and mounted too.

Who's that trip-trapping across my bridge?
It's jus a matter of time now..the reconversion is complete. I checked fuel pressure..I got it, and it don't leak. All I have to do now is calibrate the tps,...and turn the key.

Barra is a really cool engine and guys have been stupid fast I call it fords 2jz . I just saw a red coupe posted on Facebook with one swapped In .

Not knowing you personally but for the years we have all been on here to me Mike - it seems like it’s all about the build and tinkering and the challenge to make it all work that drives you to keep pressing along . Reading your lastest posts though it’s like it you are at the point where tinkering is becoming a headache and where do you actually begin to enjoy using this thing without the worry . Sbf is great but I know you’re beyond that route .

Cobra motor is cool and they work but compared to the coyote tech and efficiency they are outdated.

My take - you do a coyote you need to go hydronoost because that damn booster wont clear . Same for the cobra motor so keep that in mind .

Truck coyote , 6r80 - a 2.3 TVS will make 575 at the tire easy and reliable at 8 psi on a stock pulley and you have a car you can drive to wherever you want and get gas mileage doing it . Or you can get some turbo manifolds and use the Chinese choo choos and make some power . Again reliable and fun and enjoy the car more then it seems you do now .

Again just my .02 . I could be totally off base here but this is a Internet friend / Aquantence perspective .

You're right about me, it used to be about the build, but even for me it's getting old.
( Maybe it's because I'm getting old........... ......Yeah..it's definitely because I'm getting old)

Who am I to talk about reliability, I have the most reliable engine on the planet. I mean, if I never drive the thing anywhere, what's gonna go wrong?

Kate was listening to me talk to the JY dude that has the aluminator, and when the phone call ended, she asked me what I was doing? I told her that I was looking into buying the future engine. When she asked me why I would do that when I probably don't have more than 2000 miles on the current engine in total over the 6 years I've had the car, all I could do was say......

Uhhhhhhh.....I want something more reliable?...

She doesn't understand the amount of insanity that is all all moving around under that hood.

On one hand she's right,.....you're all right to say that I haven't even given the engine a chance to fail. On the other hand, what do I have left when and if it does?
The engine is basically the same engine that usually gets driven to death. This thing was in a Maverick when I snagged it out of there, and had cylinders that were so worn out, I HAD to sleeve the block. Yet I haven't even driven the thing 2000 miles in the 4 years it's actually been running.

Maybe I NEED to try and blow it up. Maybe I NEED to try and break something..I've actually been thinking that maybe I'll take it to a TnT night at the track...and I've always said I would never drive it through the gate of a drag strip.

It's the leaks that bug me the most about it. There has always been a rear oil leak that drips out of the bellhousing..I think it's coming from the head gasket at the rear but I just don't know. Once I start leaning on this thing, like I did last time this engine had this intake on it that leak will become more pronounced, and it'll leave a pretty serious puddle on the floor.

I don't even know why I worry about any of it...It's not like I can sell this combo to anybody.

You are building something with stuff that was not designed to work together. You started with an idea, figured out what it would take to make it work together and now you are doing the little stuff, although they don't seem little, so it will work.
It will work, it may leak, rattle like a John Deer and require constant attention but it will work, you have already proved that.
The question is: at this point (in life) do you keep going with what amounts to 'automotive art' or do I want to just drive it.

I was in your same position with my car. I had a few issues with the previous motors. Leaks noises etc i ended up spending a small fortune building a 302 and when done i still had problems. At that point the car had been sitting for 6 years and i was not happy. I decided sell it while it was still running and swap in a nice reliable f150 coyote. I do not regret it at all. Took the car for its maiden voyage on Sunday and loved every second of it. Until I found out the tremec 3550 did not enjoy it. Now its time for a 6r80 or t56. Do the coyote if you decide to change anything you will not regret it one bit.

Barra... //end conversation......

or...... we can make some extreme use of the cams in the coyote... lumpy idle is just a push of a button.... to move the LSA of the cams together at idle. to move from NA to turbo on one of these new fords its just a tune adjustment.... no cam change needed. oh and your MS3X can do that.....

Do an eight ITB coyote.... ( joking but not joking )

I too am at that crossroad. I told my wife, again, that I was going to take the turbo kit off the car. She looked at me puzzled and asked me why. I told her I wanted something reliable that I didn't have to worry about breaking every time I drive it. She said, " why are you worried ya don't drive the damn thing !!! ". My point exactly. I want to drive it. She then looked at me strangely and said, " guess a turbo build is too complicated for you...". I replied the car has been together for 2 years. She threw a pillow at me and told me to drive it till it breaks something.

It all sounds great....but I don't want to go through breaking something 'cause that means I've got to fix it. So....i buy parts for my new car and Dusty sits. Occasionally, driven around the neighborhood. I swear every day long tubes are sounding better and better for his future.
