Airbag light flashes ever 5-6 seconds and tac sits at 3000, but works beyond that. Both happened at the same exact time??? Any recommendations on this??

Your airbag system or module needs servicing? Youll probably need to pull some codes for that..as far as your tach...it just sits at 3000 even when off or at idle?

Its probably coincidence they both happened at the same time, or have you recently done work to your car?

Tac goes down when car is turned off, but when its on, it sits at 3000 and goes up when you go over 3000 rpm. Some electrical work was done tight before I bought it. New cup holder center console, with Bluetooth plugin and lighter plug. Other than that other. I did put in a new battery and car alarm but that was after all of this happening. As far as the air bag, its just the light flashing. Car was in an accident 15 years ago. Looks like the cruise control doesn't work either.

Dealer said airbag and tac need to be replaced. quoted me $1200 and then I made and appointment to fix it and know they are refusing to do it cause their is too much liability because they have to buy parts from third party sellers. Most people I have talked to have told me to not take it to a dealer. Im in a pickle right now because nobody wants to touch it! I had no idea this would be so difficult to fix.

I updated your Thread title so you would get more looks because "1993 GT" is not telling people much.

What about the horn, does it work? Go here for location and trouble shooting:

Thread 'Missing Horn 88 Gt.'

Jul 6, 2016
ok, my horn ( the part that beeps) is completely missing. I need some pics of exactly where it should be located, how it should be mounted, and what the wires look like.

88 Gt. Thanks!!!

Does the cigarette lighter work? If not clear the cigarette lighter (a dime will fit in there and short it out so check) and then check the fuse. Worst case is the clock spring under the steering wheel has failed and they do not make them anymore so you will need to find a used one that works.

I see you're in Maine.
Just send that car down here to me, don't know if I can fix it but I can try.
You gonna try to fix it yourself?

The airbag light will tend to blink in a sequence that indicates a code number. Can you see a pattern in the blinking? If not, can you make a video?

Cruise not working makes me suspect the clock-spring. problem is it's an obsolete part. So is the airbag? So how is a dealer sourcing these parts?

Are you mechanically inclined at all? You can buy a 90-93 cluster off ebay for $100-150 and swap the tach out. It's not too hard.

I’ve been trying to find a replacement clock spring for my 1990 for a while with no luck at least on eBay and car-part.com

No ones going to touch mid 90's air bag systems because of the liability, only options are electronic repair services where you send the parts off for recaps, board or ribbion cable repairs or diy. Clock springs ain't hard at all to fix, majority are ribbon cable issues. Need to know the codes to see what failed in the air bag system, tach sticking could be the tach itself needing repair or other electrical issues.

With the car being a 1993 I am reading the blinks as a Code 35. Rewatch the video and you will see three blinks a short pause and then five more blinks. I am at a loss here as I cannot find a Code 35 listed anywhere except one place which was Pins 8 & 9 shorted but as far as I know there are no wires there. My guess would be the air bag module itself has issues as they are aging out.

1990-1991 is single digit codes. 1992+ should be 2-digit codes. There are no 3-digit airbag codes.

Problem is I don’t see a code 35 listed anywhere. The 94+ system is completely different so can’t cross-reference that.

Gonna search around a bit more.

Edit: on the 1992 codes…diagnostic monitor internal fault is code 53.

Can you take a longer video so we can see the sequence repeat? Looking to determine if it’s a code 35 or a code 52.

The diagnostic monitor is a common failure. These units are getting old and likely need recapping like the ECUs.
