Your best bet is to buy an 87-93 5.0 roller chassis to rob parts from. Beat up or wrecked, as long as the drivetrain is in tact, you'll have the parts you need without going broke or crazy trying to find them.

Sure, I mean it's not like these are collectors items. If you want to spend your time and money sourcing the needed swap parts that are already on av8 car jump on it. The op said on a budget. Nothing about a swap without already owning all of those parts in the dorm of a donor car is budgetary.
But let's make that list he needs and dollar signs subjective depending on quality and condition
Motor and trans trans
Driveshaft
Carb and intake
Carb friendly distributor
Fuel pump
Carb Friendly Fuel Tank
Exhaust
Starter
Motor mounts
Rear end since that 7.5 will explode and has an open diff to boot
Ignition box
Probably a good idea to replace that worn suspension including springs, struts, and control arm bushings.
Trans mount
New radiator
Tranny cooler
Depending on his engine choice he may need a whole new accessory set up
Throttle cable
Kick down cable
Are we leaving stock 4cyl brakes?
Stock k member will work but the v8 unit is wider allowing more room for brakes and tires.
5 lug swap?

I am leaving the breaks and k member for now but what motor mounts do I need ?

Throw the 2.3 mounts away, need to buy 5.0 mounts. If you go with with convertible mounts,the motor sits lower in the car not hitting the k member but low center gravity.

The ford c4.... AOD transmission are OK for mild builds but are slush boxes. They both have pretty good aftermarket support. I haven't run automatics in any of my mustangs. Guess the deciding factor is if you want overdrive or not. I don't think a c4 ever came with overdrive...the AOD is overdrive but can only handle so much power. Then again I don't know squat about autos... Lol

Yeah I live in Michigan, it's about 2.5 hrs to Indiana and depending on where you live is the hourly factor. No bigge when I drive a vw Passat tdi getting 63 mpg on open highway.

But mustangs mustangs ah yes. C4 is good for upgrading the valve body's and I never liked an aod for mustangs. They never lived up to the abuse my foot would give to it. But true a t5 is better. I have killed a few c6's. Memory recalls about 6 miles on a fully built c6 trans and 27 lbs of boost I hit trans button at 4K and herd a pop in trans and about 6 miles later it was toast when I flat footed the car making full boost and I walked back to pick up chunks from the middle of the road.

I am just at a stand still until I get some money together for a bunch of parts but I plan on having everything together here in a month or less
