1993 Tachometer WTH

I have a Sunpro tach in another car that now has an occasional palsy when running at idle and pegs out when off after the center tab in the cigarette lighter came off, shorted out the socket, and took out about seven fuses. I do not know what happened to your tach, but if you can replace it without a lot of hassle, I’d do it and see about having the goofy one repaired for a spare.

I general, it would be good to know how to fix these tachs. These parts are getting old, so failures are bound to happen. Only option right now is to buy a new one, but clusters are getting up there in price as well. We are at the point where repairs to electronics (like ECU's) will become necessary.

Simple Stepper motor, probably saw its last sweep and gave up. If you're any good with small electronics you can pull it apart, find out what specs it is and buy a new one for a few bucks

I’ll have to look at when, I source a replacement. The car is low mileage and stock even has all the evap and smog on it.

Since all the stay at home orders,I’ll continue to look into repair
