My 1995 Gt 5.0 has had a ping ever since i got it i have backed the timing to 4 btc and made sure the balancer hasnt slipped. the distributer is new and set in correctly. And i disconected the spout when i timed it. I put a new mass air flow sensor on and it didnt help at all. im running colder plugs. i ran two cans of seafoam through the manifold and a can through the tank. It runs good fuel pressure and the regulator seems to be working well also. if Anybody has any ideas it would be sweeet Thanks

I wouldn't be so certain the balancer hasn't slipped. Short of removing it you may not be able to tell. If it has you really have no way of knowing where the timing is. Colder plugs will not solve your problem. I suggest you go back to spec on the plugs, just plain copper core and adjust to .054 and pull the balancer to confirm it's condition.

Agree about going back to stock plugs but there's no need to pull the balancer just yet. I suggest he pulls the no.1 plug and turns the engine with a socket wrench until the no.1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke. Then he can see where the rotor is positioned and also check if the balancer outer ring is in the right place (pointer at TDC). I suspect you're probably right about the outer ring of the balancer having spun a few degrees giving a falsely low timing reading.

I would pull the codes. I had the exact same problem with my all stock 1995 gt that has 172,000 on the clock. When the codes were checked it came back with codes for both banks running lean. I could not see anything wrong with the balancer. I suppose the timing ring could slip, but Ive never seen it yet. My entire problem turned out to be a dirty MAF sensor. Pulled it apart being careful with the two wires. I used electric contact cleaner, let it dry, put it back together.... Problem solved. Runs smooth as can be again.

I like easy fixes.

I also doubt the timing ring as slipped I have seen then come apart but never spun. Go with taking the suggested to confirm. Bring one cyl to tdc comp stroke and see where your Rotor is then reset it by aligning the rotor to the center of the number one terminal. Then pull the spout and check timing also before starting check the timing marks it should be at o degrees. If all checks out check your fuel pressure it should be at idle 35-40 psi then pull the vac line form reg if no change is seen replace reg you should notice a gain I. Fuel pressure when reg is not hooked up. If all that checks out get your hands on a scann tool that will let you read data then check your mass parameters and o2 Sensors.

This post goes back to last summer and the OP never did let us know how the problem was resolved. And, the HB will spin without completely separating leastwise mine did to about 20*.
