Ok i have a 96 mystic that hasn't had the "fix" done to it because it's never ran hot!

This year it seems to be running hot, between the "L" and the red line.
Can i take care of my running hot problem by going with an aftermarket performance radiator? Need to get this fixed ASAP, just not sure what needs to be done.

Thanks

Did you try changing the thermo-stat?

Test the anti freeze and add a bottle of redline water wetter and see what happens. Some people went the aftermarket radiator route when this was hitting in 96. Make sure you also have enough shroud around the fan.

WWhoa Whoa Whoa, did you say the fix on a 96? I thought the fix was always meant towards 99's. Whats the fix and where the hell have i been the last 8 years?

In a nutshell, some of the '96 snakes (mostly in the warmer climates) ran a little hot. I don't remember the full details, but there was a TSB/recall for the 96 cobras (ford service dept upgraded the '96 cooling system to '97 spec).

I decided last summer to fix my Cobra even though it wasn't running hot. I bought a Fluidyne 3-core alum. radiatior through a group purchase ($360 shipped I believe), then I bought a Steeda 180 degree thermostat ($10). I also purchased what was considered to be the best coolant for our cars, Motorcraft Premium, the gold stuff. I installed all of the parts myself and added the coolant and a bottle of Royal Purple water wetter. It runs extremely cool now, between the O and R. Try changing your thermostat first, if that doesn't work then get a new radiatior, that'll definitely fix the problem.

My car ran hot until I put a Steeda Radiator in it. It went from running in the L in NORMAL, to running in the N and O. Even when running at the track it did not move. Stock thermostat and regular coolant. I love that radiator, best mod I ever did , besides the blower :rlaugh:
