I recently bought a 97 GT and I have a friend that has a 2004 GT and we want to line them up and see the results. here is a list of mods for both cars...you do you think wil win?

1997 GT: CAI, U/D pulley's, PI intake, H pipe, Mac catback, 3.73's, 5spd.

2004 GT: CAI, X pipe, Magnaflow catback, stock auto, stock 3.27's

Wow, that could be an interesting race. The 97 is down 45hp from the factory, with mods, but the 04 has a stock auto and stock gears. I'd say the 97 will win if you can drive it well and it's in good tune!

An auto with stock gears will be a real dog off the line, but you are still down on power.

You'll have to take him in the first 60' and hope he doesn't have enough time to catch up. :D

Also, you'd better clarify if this is 1/8th mile or 1/4 mile before the thread gets shut down. :nonono: :Track:

Was there an option for a gear upgrade in the later years? 3.08s were in all the autos I have worked on, including my own :(
I did not know the auto came with different gears, I asumed they were all 3.27's stock so you may be right.

Race is at the track 1/4 mile. I will be on a tire and he will not. I think I can get him hard off the line being a 5spd with a gear and tire.

I'll assume you two would be running these cars at the track. As such, I'll put in another vote for the '04. It's still putting out more power to the wheels than the '97 by a good margin. Especially if the '97 is still running the stock ECU tune.

My car runs very strong and I am suspect that it may be a full PI swap. I ran a friends 96 5spd stock and pulled about 4-5 cars on him. Dont know how to tell if I have a full swap but the car is much faster than any NPI car I have ever driven.
