1998 Explorer engine into 88 fox???

Tom, also, I almost forgot. I am probably in the neighborhood of 30-40 minutes from where you live. If you decide to do the oil pump, let me know. I am a pretty good supervisor.. later

johnf - HP peak at 4900; torque peak at 3800. I told Buddy (custom cam Rawls) that I didn't want it to peak over 5000 rpm (hp) cause I wanted the lower torque curve to be big, fat and flat. Don't get me wrong, it revs easily to 5500 especially in 1st and 2nd. But in 3rd and 4th, there's just no need going up there as I'd make more progress shifting, and letting it drop back to the fat part of the torque curve. As you're checking around, be sure to ask about the heads and intake being used - we (you and me) have about the least flowing of the aftermarket heads available and the cam will of course behave differently with different heads/intake. Nice job on the oil pump tips!

Tom - if you don't drop the tranny, be sure the drive shaft ujoints are oriented in a way that the engine can be pivoted up without putting the joint in a bind.

johnf440 - My car carries power through 5,400 rpm and torque is really fat through the whole curve - 284ft-lb average from 2,000-5,600 rpm. My cam valve events are very close to the 15510 Crower and fairly close to yours, but I don't have their lift. I am posting a copy of my dyno for you to see. Your cam has 4* advance ground in, so I ran your events and yours will be pretty close to mine.

Here our valve events and yours @ .050" lift:
mine: IVO=.5*, IVC=42.5*, EVO=43.5*, EVC=-7* with -9* overlap

yours: IVO=-4*, IVC=36*, EVO=47*, EVC=-9* with -13* overlap

Power band may be very similar too.

I would love to have that obscenely flat torque curve. Are you still SD? I am considering whether I need to go Mass Air with the engine change and have read much on 50tech.com that says I may not "need" to but I might want to. Oh well. I need to get that engine in my garage and get to work. Thanks guys.

Yes, I'm still SD. My combination was built to make torque first - I really was not too worried about peak HP, although I knew about where the number should be. I may have 10-20HP left in the tune. This car is such a joy to drive, I can let the clutch out with minimal to no throttle input and just pull away on reasonable inclines. I taught my daughters to drive a performance car with my original set up, and now my oldest is rabid over driving the car now.
