hi there

i lived in europe and i just bought a 2.3 L ford mustang from 1979

it's hard to find information for this engine

where can i get information about this engine and found parts

i 'm looking for the Value to fit my distributor ( in degrees)

and is it a belt timing or a timing chain like on V8?

if it's a belt , where can i order it on internet ?

regards

guillaume

Well let's see.

Hopefully someone else can chime in about engine info, what do you want to know exactly?

I do know that your factory timing should be 10 degrees BTDC.

The engine has a timing belt, and you could find one on about any auto parts website (www.partsamerica.com, www.autozone.com) but it would have to be shipped to you. Do they have auto parts stores there?

thanks , that's the information i need

ok for the 10° BTDC , i'll check it soon

for the belt sure i have some auto parts store but don't thinks they would have mustang parts ... only for european or asiatic car (

so i'll order the belt in the usa , i know how to do , this is my second mustang .. the first one is a 69 GT sportroof , so overseas order have no secret for me

have got some links for FOX BODY for me , where i can found tips , schémas , pictures , how to , historic .. etc etc

Well if you're going to order a timing belt, might as well buy everything for a tuneup since you'll have to have it all shipped anyway. Cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs, etc.

Also a great guide for how-tos on maintenence, would be a Chilton's manual if you can find one, check ebay. I had a Chilton's for my old Mustang and it was awesome. Or look on Amazon.com, probably a ton of mustang books on there.

Hope that helps...other than that, you might be surprised at what you can find online just by searching 1979 Mustang on a search engine.

In France, '79 was the last year of official imports of the Mustang. Less than 500 units were sold, most 2.3l Turbo ... finding parts here for this engine is almost impossible
There are some more in other european countries, especially Belgium, Germany and Netherlands, but it's still a rare car.

The Lima engine, from what i've read a looong time ago, is an evolution of the 2.0l of the Pinto, which was itself based on the german 1.6l ... but i never found any common parts when i owned my 2.3l ...

content de voir une autre Fox prendre la route en France

well, I would say that the better place to find stuff on internet is ebay,..

You can also look at : www.racerwalsh.com
http://johnsmustang.com/Catalog/3236/

I'm not a pro with all the carb stuff but I know that the merkur Xr4ti have the 2.3Turbo engine in it, and it have almost all the same parts then the 2.3 EFI Lima engine and it's an europeen car.. Dunno if it could help..

Bonne chance mec--> Good luck dude

The Ford 2.3l Lima (OHC) is a 2302cm3 engine
The Volvo 2.3l (SOHC) is a 2316cm3 engine

It's known there's a way to use Volvo 2.3l DOHC head on Ford 2.3l, coolant/oil passage needing adaptation, but that's the only part that could be "shared" as far as i know.

According to ACDelco website, timing belt is specific to Ford 2.3l Lima. It's shared by no other engines ...

Some parts available on other engines/cars available in Europe :
Oil filter (classic FL1-A)
Spark-plugs (Focus 2.0l)
Distributor rotor (Jeep 2.5l)
Coil (Wrangler)
Radiator cap (various)
Thermostat (Focus/Escort 2.0l)
...
