yes, if I'm asking it probably is... but check this out!

03 Cobra w/4K miles advertised in my local paper. Saw the pics online and it looks hot. Dude's askin $20K/OBO... but for some reason there's no phone #... I'm thinkin if it's legit it's probably got a salvage title...

That's too low of a price, isn't it? I emailed him so if he replies I'm gonna go look at it and if it checks out I'm gonna drop the cash and do it. I'll have to sell my beloved SC 00GT which runs as fast as an 03 Cobra but... it's still not a Cobra!

I'll keep you all updated.

Well if it's a local then I say you have nothing to lose by checking it out! Might as well take a ride to where ever the car is and take a look. You never know it may just be legit!

U.M.

P.S. And yes, 20K for a 4K mile '03 is a little low. Maybe its been wrecked, maybe its been beat all to crap? Who knows?

This is teh reply I got... Seems fishy but I'm gonna propose that if we use my escrow company I'll do it...

Hello,
I'm very glad you are interested in buying my car.
It is a great car.Excellent condition.
Here are the selling conditions :
1) Before I ship/drive and/or meet you for inspection the car to you I request a minimum deposit of $2000.
2) We will use an escrow service which will take care of this $2000 deposit.
My lawyers advised that through an escrow company is the best way to close expensive deals.
Here is the link: http://www.escrow-sc.com
The fees are very low (0.75%).
I'm already a member of them (DennisKely@aol.com is my registered email address).
Also you can check my rating (5 positive transactions and none of them negative) by clicking "CHECK AN USER RATING" from their home page (just enter my email).
Here is how we will proceed:
1) start the transaction with me (or I can start it as a seller if you want, just let me know).
2) secure $2000 to escrow (it will act as a third party securing the funds).
3) after you make the deposit, I will ship/drive the car for inspection to you.

IMPORTANT: When you start the transaction , write the first deposit value ($2000), not the total price of the vehicle, we will transact only the first deposit through the escrow service.
After you will approve the car, you will have to wire the balance to me and also tell escrow to release the secured funds to me.
This is the only way I can close this deal with you.
I'm a busy doctor and I can not meet all my potential buyers.
After the deposit is confirmed ,we can move forward.
Regards,
Dr. Dennis Kelly.

PS: If you will refuse the car after the inspection period (which can be up to 31 days), escrow will return your money back (FULL REFUND) and also you will have to return the car to me.
Also check the following links to see why it is safe to use this kind of service :

Run away NOW! This is a SCAM!

First off, the guy won't even let you see the car until you plunk down $2000 in an escrow service of HIS choosing... WARNING WILL ROBINSON, WARNING!

I also did some quick research on escrow-sc and it's on a long list of "Suspect" on-line escrow services that are being shut down for various infractions.

http://www.carbuyingtips.com/fraud.htm

A quick "Whois" search shows that this escrow-sc website was JUST registered/created on December 5 of this year. The owner uses a Yahoo mail account and his contact phone number is INTERNATIONAL!? The state he used for registration is "BJ"?

I say stay away...

That guy is crazy. Take U.M.'s advice and run for the hills.

Ps - I thought you said he was local? Where the hell is he going to ship the car for your inspection?

Definitely don't even think about doing escrow. When I was selling my blazer on Autotrader.com last year, I got a few emails from people wanting to use escrow and they all had that same fake officialness to them. I read up on escrow and found out it is usually a scam. Basically they get your money, and you get nothing for it. Look it up, there are some real horror stories out there about people losing $30,000+ so yea run away fast lol.

I've seen this several times now from scammers. They tried it on me 3 times on Autotrader - reported the ads to customer service and had them removed. I had the quiet satisfaction of knowing their investment in the ad went down the drain.
The FBI's also got an on-line complaint department (ifccfbi.gov). I always report to them as well. Don't know if they follow up but it's worth a shot.

I sold my Lexus last year and one guy actually wanted me to SHIP him the car (at his expense) and go through his phony escrow service for payment.

As with all things, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it is.
