When I first purchased my Mustang 5 years ago, the PO stated that the engine was 200ci. I never gave it a thought until earlier this year, when a mechanic told me that the engine was 250ci. I understand that in 1969, Ford raised the 200's deck 1.66 inches, using the same 3.68-inch bore, and stroked the taller block to 3.91 inches to achieve 250ci. What I want to know is (1) when I buy parts (plugs, wires, ect) is it safe to say 200 specifications will work? The 250 is most likely out of a 1969-'70 Mustang, but (2) would it make a difference if it was out of a 19XX Falcon, Comet, Fairlane, Mustang, Maverick, Fairmont, or Zephyr?

Don't think 1.66" of deck height will bother anything.

unless you are rebuilding the engine, or changing waterpumps, most of the parts interchange. you can tell a 200 from a 250 because the 250 uses a 4 bolt waterpump, and the 200 uses a 3 bolt pump. engine mounts are also 250 specific to a point. check out www.fordsix.com for more info. oh, if you have a 250, and you need to change timing chains and gears, they are also 250 specific as they are longer than the 200 chain.

I think you should determine for certain if it's a 250, and if so, just buy 250 parts.
