thanks much, i did start the car the puled the hose off the air plenum where the iac is attached and the result was a drop of about 400 rpm, based on your comments I am concluding the iac valve is goodTo test with the car running Un plug the iac if there's a difference in idle the it's ok if there's no difference then the iac is bad here's a pic or where it's located

Your welcome but what I meant is by disconnecting the iac is where it's plugged in with the wire connection not the hose that's how you check italso I wanted to say thanks for the pic, it was very useful!
yes , I disconnected the negative battery connections and let it sit overnight, any other suggestions? thanks and God bless, Gary L.Did you unplug your battery?
