I have done my research on the archived posts and admit there are several simillar questions but no possitive answers.
I have a 65 fastback gt-350 clone and my cousin has given me his 2005 bullet wheels/rims.

I would like to know if these will fit.

Here are the details.
2005 bullet whells 17" x 8" with a 6.295 (6 5/16") Backspacing.
The tires are 235/55R17 (i think)

My mustang is a 65 with a granada disk brake conversion up front.
I have not done the SHelby drop but plan on doing a coil over system and BAer disk brakes all around.

I have looked at the wheel chart and it does not included wheels with this backspacing.
I believe my current back spacing is 4.5" but I will confirm this evening my measureing.
Thank you in advance.

me too

I am also looking for an answer to this. I am supposed to be sending out the $ for a set of take-offs from an '06 tomorrow. There is no definate answer on whether these ones will fit anywhere in the forum.

Thanks

nice car

blkfrd, that exactly the look I am going for, only in poppy red. Just to clarify, you are running 05/06 wheels? My car sits at stock height (for now) so I should have to worry less about clearance issues. What tires are you running front/rear?

Thanks

I just wanted to let everyone know that blkford is running 03 or 04 wheels I belive not the 2005 wheels. He wrote in his post that his backspacing is 5.75 and I know for a fact that the 05 bullet wheels are 6.295 backspacing. Just a quick note before you go out and buy 1" spacers.

Now I am confused

How is the backspacing on the wheels 6.295? I will post this in a new me thread too but, from my readings, BS is = .5 x wheel width + offset.

=(.5 x 8") + 45mm =(.5 x8") + 1.77" = 5.77" baskspacing

Am I right?

Yes that's correct if you know the offset.

There's a problem with your math. An 8" wheel is actually 9" wide when measured. This is because the advertised width is measured from bead to bead. The actual width includes the outer material past the inner bead...aprox 1/2" each side. An 8" wheel with 0 offset will have a BS measurment of 4.5".

to use the 05 wheels u will need a 1.25-1.5 spacer to make them work i got granada spindles on my car and with the 3 bolt control arms i was able to use a .700 spacer with my cobra wheels that have a 5.72 back spacing so basically i ended up with a 5.02 backspacing only needing minor grinding on my control arms and my suspension is stock except for the 1 coil cut from the springs hope this helps

No original thinking here, but a good idea I read in a past thread on wheel fitment.

You can take a bunch of flat washers and put them between the wheel and the car temporarily (DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR THIS WAY!) . You can turn the wheel back and forth and move the car a little in your garage to check for interference.

Then you can measure the thickness of the stack of washers and be absolutely certain that you will have the correct backspacing.

It's one way to double check before you spend on wheel spacers.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I ordered a set of zero mile '06 wheels tires today. Once I get around to putting them on I'll post up the exact specs for my application. Until then I shall be working on converting my S-10 to an injected 350. It better not be faster than my mustang.

I bought a pair of 18x9 +36 offset 2005+ Mustang wheels for the front of my 68 coupe. I had previously run a 17x9 +24 Cobra R wheel on the front that I had narrowed to a 17x8. If you do the math you will see that this ended up being 4.94" of backspacing. At my ride height (Global West 620's with 1 full coil removed) this combo did not offer the fender clearance I needed. So when I decided to go to 18's I bought the deeper offest 2005+ wheels to narrow 1" and have a final backspacing of 5.42". This worked great except the wheels rubbed the UCA's at full steering lock. I could have added some material to the steering stops to fix this but since I had some 1/4" spacers I opted to run them instead of sacraficing turning radius. Also, my wheel lips are rolled front and back. Here is a pic of the narrowed wheel.

On the back I was running 18x10's (+22 or 6.37" backspace) with a 295/35 tire and no spacers. This perfectly centered the wheel in the available space but at my ride height (GW leafs dearched 2") they rubbed a little on the inside and outside. So rather than raise it up I went with 18x9 (+24 5.94") and a 274/40 tire, still with no spacers. If you are going to run it low you have to tuck them in as far as you can. The pics below show where it was rubbing with the 18x10 combo. The inside rub is the most common place on the bottom of the inner wheel house that could have been fixed with a few well placed BFH hits. On the outise notice how far inside from the lip it was rubbing. Fixing the outside rub would have only been solved by raising the car up. And since large diameter wheel/tire combos look dorky on any car without the right stance I chose to go smaller rather than raise it up.

Here is what the 5.74" BS on the rear for your comparison. This is with a 9" cut down to the factory width and no spacers.

I've read your posts before but didn't fully understand the need for 275s until now. I didn't realize the 295s would rub that far inboard of the outer wheelwell.

That's some good information and with detailed pictures too. Thanks.

tried on my new shoes

I tried to put my wheels on last night. The rear was touching the leaf spring and there was exactly .5" from the mating surface of the wheel to the hub. The front was about 1.5" from seating on the hub. It was limited by upper control arm.

Any thoughts/suggestions. I am thinking about 1"-1.5" spacers in the rear and something like 2" up front.

I like the idea of using washers to determine the optimal size spacers.

2WhiteStripes stated above that the 05 Bullit wheels are 17 x 8s with 6.295 (6 5/16") backspacing and 235 width tires. If your 06 wheels are also 17 x 8, and there are no hub mounting issues, THEY WILL FIT with the right spacers.

A 1.545 spacer all the way around would make them work with a 235 series tire. If I were in your shoes, I would start there and adjust until perfect.

Oh yea, we would appreciate pictures showing the final results.

I was hoping the studs would be long enough to shim the wheels out with spacers but that would have meant they needed to be in the 3" long region.

I ordered a set of 4 billet 1.5" wheel spacers yesterday. I hope to have them in by the weekend. From my extensive reading on this I found that these should get the wheels just about where I want them. I have access to a machine shop so if some meat needs to be milled off of them I should be alright.

I think I only really needed about 1" in the rear but I wanted to make sure that the rear track was greater than or equal to the front track.

Now I need to get some lug nuts for aluminum wheels - do any of the autoparts stores sell a decent quality set? I would imagine I could stop by a ford dealer to see what they want for them. I just dont feel like buying them online.
