As this is my first post, I'd like to say hi all. Its time for motor replacement in my '90 LX daily driver. Does anybody know who has a good deal on the stock 225 horse Ford crate motor? Everybody around me has it for $2600-2700 which seems kinda high considering the 345 horse motor can be had for $3000-3100 or so. I was a mechanic at one time and have seen one to many botched jobs from rebuilders (Jasper-type) and machine shops (although higher-end shops are quite good). Crate motors have always worked well in my experience. Any thoughts?

not sure if ford still sells them, but I got mine a few years ago for $1800 complete. top to bottom, even had oil in the pan, just put a carb on and go.. it was a 94-95 engine though, I think they were selling excess production engines..

call around, I found that the price varied ALOT.. up to $1000 between dealers..

I think they still sell the 285HP short block for $1300, then just throw a set of good heads on it..

Assuming you want a stock crate motor, I've seen them for around $2200. But as for the "345 hp" motor for $3000, that is with Ford Racings air and fuel delivery (its in the fine print). Unless you want to dump another $1000 in that motor making it $4000-$4500 (upper/lower intake, bigger injectors, throttle body, mass air meter), stay with the stock 225 hp motor. Then you can re-use your old fuel and air induction....

Just a thought to consider.
