I'm probably going with a TFS stage 1 for mine, but they all say to upgrade the torque convertor first. I knew I would lose a little low end with the GT40 heads so I didn't put the cam in when I built my motor last year, I wasn't expecting to have to build a motor and had not saved up for it, so after buying a junk yard motor and rebuilding it I was short of cash for the cam, convertor, and trans cooler. All it takes is money but there is always somewhere else to spend it.

I'm going to see how it does with the 255lph fuel pump and rebuild the injectors. I had bought a75mm Pro Flow Technologies ( Pro-M) Bullet meter and 24lb blue injectors because I found a GREAT deal on Craigslist $65 for meter, injectors and rebuild kit, but sold them to get the fuel pump and 1.7 crane roller rockers. I don't plan on any power adders for the car so the 19lb parts should be enough to support the HP my engine will make.
You're looking at the fuel upgrades wrong. Adding a larger pump and larger injectors don't make more power. The reason you see people adding larger injectors and pumps is because they've added more air into their engine so it requires more fuel to make an explosion which drives the piston. Think of how a fire is made, it takes air, fuel, and heat. Adding more fuel with out adding more air or heat to a fire will put the fire out. A lit cigarette will extinguish if it is dropped in a puddle of jet fuel (did it a few times in the navy). The reason it doesn't ignite is due to the fact that the cig isn't hot enough. What I'm getting at is the 3 ingredients to make fire have to be added in the appropriate perportions to make the fire happen. By the way if the only thing you change is the fuel pump it will still be pumping the same amount of fuel into the motor as the stock pump. Back to the 24 # injectors and tune. The power increase (and it's not going to be a monstrous amount) would come more so from the tune than the injectors.

He has an explorer motor. With that cam he'd essentislly have a "Cobra" motor minus the 24#. Is that good or bad? I guess it all boils down to intended vehicle use and budget. Which can be said about everything.

The E-cam is in no way, even close to being "like" a cobra cam... so I fail to see how you think he'd "essentially have a cobra engine". The Explorer engine runs a lower compression ratio than stock. The E-cam, as reported by cam gurus like Buddy Rawls and Ed Curtis, needs a higher compression engine (in the area of 10:1) to actually work correctly. Many people miss this fact, and it really comes down to using a cam that matches the combo. In this case, the E-303 is NOT a good match.

You basically have a stock engine. Stock bottom end with some bolt on's doesn't mean much. You'd need some new pistons to bump your CR, and deck those heads to shrink the combustion chamber.

What cam was in the cobra? I thought it was the e303.. Was it the 93 that had the ho cam and 1.7rr's? Was it the same in 94-95. What's the Cobra's compression ratio and what's the explorers?
You're acting like hoards of people haven't haven't done the gt40 heads and cam w e303 on a stock bottomend. While no it's not a monster it's a step above the e7 ho motor which is what most would refer to the "Stock" motor. Like a 30 rear horse difference between the two. Fwiw Ed and Buddy are in the business of selling cams

0.479"/0.479" I/E with the stock 1.7 rockers, (209°/209°) duration at 0.050"

Compression was 9:1. Exploders come through at 8.8-8.9:1

Ahh I see. The lower compression was due to different pistons?

While I have run a e cam for years I do highly recommend using a different grind. Preferably a tfs1,comp cams,Lunati for ots or better yet a custom. A custom only adds anywhere from 50-105$ over the other options(depending core material and who does it). Op you can run the e cam with the proper springs, mods, etc but it's not ideal. You will be losing some power and drivability over a better cam. The e cam is really soft below 2500rpm and doesn't pull very high(all done before 6k). Its old technology by today's standards but again it will "work"

Will the gt40 heads and intake make any power above 6k rpm anyway?

Nope and I do understand your point. But the e cam/gt40 etc combo ends up with a very narrow power band. The intake and heads like low/mid rpm torque. The cam likes mid/upper rpm. So you end up with an engine that makes a very narrow power band i.e. 3-5k with a mushy lowend and no high pull. Will it make some power? Sure. Is it a complete dog compared to stock? Nope. Will a proper h/c/i wax it's ass in a day to day comparison AND in a race? Sure will. Again it's an ok cam with the gt40 stuff but there are better grinds available. Better for drivability and performance. If a person is satisfied with hohum results...I'm just tired of this subject and can honestly say if I had known what I know now I NEVER would have used that cam.

Bolt ons means a lot when you're a budget builder like me, I didn't ask this question to get shot down on my car.
