Was it common for an 89 5.0 to come stock with an AOD and 273's? If so what is the best bet for some gears good for street running and not to high for normal freeway driving? I had heard that 89 automatics usually came factory with 308's and not 273's. Why is mine different? it's still a stock rearend. 100% orginal, would really appreciate a few different ideas for some new gears!

both gear sets were factory options. some cars came with 273s, others with 308's luck of the draw, that's it.

for lots of highway driving, don't go past 3.73's

You had to request an optional 3 27 for an automatic FOX car before buying it.
If you didn't you would get the conventional 2 73 gear set.
My car was originaly an automatic with 2 73's
Now I have a 5 speed with 3 73's. Major difference in performance and gas mileage!

Typo above!
Yes 3 27 optional gear for slush o matic

The standard gearset for all fox 5.0's is 2.73's. That's for 5-spd and AOD.

You could order optional gears

3.27's for AOD's
3.08's for 5-spd

MOST 5.0's came with 2.73's

3.55s or 3.73s are the way to go. You will probably have someone come on here and say to go with 4.10s. You will take it in the shorts on gas mileage and engine wear if you do highway driving with 4.10s. :notnice:
