275's on a factory rim??

Will I be able to put a 275 40 17 rear tire on a Factory 1996 Cobra rim? I believe they are 17 x 8. Or maybe 17 X 9. I am not sure. Everyone's input is appreciated

Some tires are narrower than others but 95% of 275 tires will fit no problem on stock 8 inch rims. The Nitto 555DR's in 275 form fit very well because they are a narrower tire than most.

As far as I know, the '96 are indeed 17x8" rims and the 275 will fit no problem, and they do not bulge out like some people say they do. I have 275/40's on my car and they fit great with good 'ole tribars.

See...that's weird, a few years ago I tried it on my tribars and there was NO way that it would work....I guess it's true, some tires are very much different

I know a guy who put 285's (Michelin Pilots) on his stock 04 GT wheels.

I have 275's on my 8" rears. Looks good, still need some spacers though.

I wouldn't do 275 up front though.

I did on my stock 17x8 wheels. I don't really like how they look and I think they affect handling a little too. I used Kumho ecsta 712's and if you want you can do it.
