Why do you have to get your steering converted? My wife & I are moving overseas (England) and are taking our Pontiac Vibe over with us. Nobody ever told us it was a requirement. As far as Ford Racing vs SVT.....SVT is a "unit" within Ford that specifically designs and builds production sports cars/trucks. SVT makes a Focus, Cobra, F150 Lightning, Contour and took part in the ultra sweet Ford "GT" (Search 2005-2006 Ford GT). They are the successor of the old SVO division Ford used to have. SVT stands for Special Vehicle Team and can be compared to GM's "Performance Division" or SRT for Chrysler. I personally think they (SVT) make the nicest performance machines out of all other companies "HiPo" divisions with exception to the Viper, new Camaro (2009) and the Z06. It always seemed to me that "Ford Racing" as a name brand was really no different than "Motorcraft" or Dodge's "Mopar" or "Direct Connection". Basically "FRPP" are good products, they just don't carry the SVT name. Same company, different units. Both good. Hope that helps you....have fun with your Cobra and IMO I don't mind the extra lights. If driving conditions are different over there than here in the states then I say use them. They may end up saving your life!
I doubt anyone but some snobby ford marketer would know why. My guess would be that the 03-04 cobra production stats got leaked and not many people wanted to buy a 4V NA motored 02 cobra (01 30K~) for close to the same price as a forged blower cobra (03 33K~) by just waiting 1 year, so they experimented by shipping 100 carry over 01 models to the only country that are use to modern American muscle, Australia. In which didn't make a good enough impact since the FPV Falcon had a 5.4L 2000-Cobra-R-LIKE engine in it which out-powered the lame 02 aussie cobra...

Well I went to get the car today and I just have no luck with this car. The guy who sold it to me left the company and didnt hand it over. So the new guy doesnt know what the deal was. Which was trade-in on my XR8 Falcon at 28k and the mustang at 48k (so I had to make up a 20k difference).
He says my car isnt worth 28k and he would only give me 22k for it. And, he argued, since there isnt any proof that the previous guy gave me that deal I can basically go an stick it.
Of course I have my own family members as witness and since I work for a financial institution I have a recorded phone call with the orginal dealer. So if push came to shove I reckon I could cause all kinds of legal strife to the dealer. But to be frank the whole thing has totally soured me on the car. I dont want it anymore.
So, going to stick to my original plan and look for a 67 or 68 fastback instead. Can anyone recomend good second hand-car websites in the USA to trawl?

You are required by law to convert the car over to LHD (as well as other changes like tyres etc) in Australia. This isnt the UK or the USA. We have different laws. If the car is over 30 years old you dont have to convert it. Which leads me to my follow-up question. What are good websites in the USA with old/used cars. Looking at buying a 67~69 fastback. The reason is in the next post.
No kidding, they put that beast in a japanese looking car.
And here we're left with a simple 4.6 2v/3v.
Ah man, sorry to hear the deal fell through on the 2001 cobra.
For sites here in North America, I'd first be looking at ebay.

I have sent a message to a couple of fellow IMBOC member in American Samoa that had (maybe still has) a RHD 2001 Ford Mustang Bullitt for sale. It's the only known one in existence. At one time the car was in Australia and may still be. The car was converted in Australia.
Lots of info on the Bullitt Mustang in this link. IMBOC also has a registry for 67/68 Mustangs. Someone on the site may well be able to help you locate a clean one if thats your choice.

Wow this is an old thread but I was reading through it and got the itch to reply some more. I know Solomoni or whatever his name was said Oz isn''t the UK or USA, BUT I STILL can't help but wonder why anyone would EVER want to convert a Mustang let alone a Cobra over to RHD. Law or not I would NEVER do it, I'm in England now and have been here for approx. 6 months and was VERY hesitant to drive a RHD car since I never have before, plus it was a bitch to contemplate shifting with my left hand. While driving the only thing my left hand does is flick cigarettes! 
......but after I gave my new car here in the UK a try it still scared the crap out of me! I was going around a roundabout and rub the curb at 50mph and damn near shat my pants! So, I finally made it back home after I was done on base and the Audi sat for about 2 weeks. Then little by little I drove small distances and now I'm so used to it I have no probs with a RHD car. Do I like sitting on the passenger side (USA Passenger side ) while driving? Hell NO! But I can do it and have no issues. One thing I'd like to add: English legislation is gay for making it so auto manufacturers don't include cup holders from the factory! WHYYYYYYY!!!???? Do they know how hard it is to drive a stick shift car with my left hand holding a fountain drink that is about to spill, steering with my right hand then shifting gears with my right hand (no hands on the wheel at this point) and then trying to recover the wheel without looking drunk in front of Air Force Security Forces/MoD? It's like they think NOBODY eats fast food or drinks coffee in the morning before work! But aside from that, I hope the original poster found the car he was looking for with minimal effort! I personally can't wait to go back to the states.....I'm going to walk into the nearest walmart and scream HALLELUJAH! I'm going to savor every second at a stop sign, I'm going to smile everytime I plug something into a standard 110volt socket, I'm going to appreciate the locks on the doors in my house that don't require me to have a key to lock them from the inside, I'm going to giggle to myself as I hold my 30/30 rifle and know that I can go outside and shoot it if I want to (in a safe area), I'm going to enjoy going to my FULLSIZE fridge to grab a GALLON of 2% milk with a blue cap, not a red one! I will sigh in relief as I load my washing machine with more than just the equivalent of two standard size towels. I know it's a lot off topic, but I just had to get that off my chest.....phew!! And that wasn't even the half of it!

Replace everything you said about RHD for LHD and that's how the REST OF THE WORLD feels about LHD. Don't forget the majority of the world is LHD.
Bottom line is if you want to drive a modern US muscle car in Australia you have to convert it. Or be happy for it to sit in the garage and idle for 30 years when you can finally drive it on the road - since that's all you could ever do.

Nope, turned up to buy it cash in hand and the dealer said basically I didn't have an official quote so they upped the price by 6k. Told them to frack off.

Saving for a 2005~2008 mustang now. They go for 120k+ here new. Cobras and Saleens got for 150k+ and a GT 500k+ Though I think with the AUD so strong I will just buy it directly from the USA and orgnaising converting myself which will run at about 80~90k USD/AUD (no much difference in value these days).

ok the FPV GT is frickin awsome that would be a fun DD,maybe when i find a new job im gonna have to start saving and import one here
