3.31 vs 3.55 axle ratio

Just ordered myself a 2007 GT/CS Convertible. I got it with the optional 3.55 rear end ratio over the 3.31. I have been trying to find how much more acceleration I can expect from this change. Any knowledgeable folks out there that can enlighten me on this. All it says on the Ford sight is that it adds quicker acceleration. I ordered yesterday and hope to get it in 6-8 weeks.

Well i dont know exactly but it is a limited slip diff and from what i know about lsd it prevents one wheel from doing something the other isnt doing. So both wheels move at the same speed which i imagine it keeps the car straight and ture which would imptove take off.

Just my theory

I am pretty sure all the GT's have the limited slip or atleast they have in the past regardless of the gears. 3.31 to 3.55 will probably be minimal difference, but I got them as an option also.

The 3.55 is standard on the GT manual transmissions and the 3.31 is optional on the automatics. But the Limited slip is Standard on the GT's.

3.55 is standard on man. in canada I believe, it's an $100 option on manuals in the U.S. for 2007 and 3.31's are standard on 2007's.

for 2007 the 3:31 is standard on the GT; if you want 3:55 it has to be ordered and is a separate item on the window sticker; prior to 07 it was standard. like he said above; sorry missed that post because of an advert stuck in the middle

So generally there will be no big difference in performance other than the CS package having the power pack included. I did not know that the prior models came standard with 3.55 ratio. I guess they are trying to let people have the option of better gas mileage? BUT who cares about gas mileage with your foot to the floor.

What he said.

About there being no difference, I wouldn't say that you might notice a tenth faster or a little more SoP feeling when accelerating. When I had 3.08's in my 93 and went to 3.55's it was a noticable difference. That being said unless I needed a small difference in gears for running slicks or I took my drag racing very seriously I wouldn't waste my money stepping up one gear range. I got the 3.55 option b/c it only cost me $100 to start with instead of switching to 3.73's later and paying 5-600 dollars. I can live with 3.55's but I might have been tempted to go steeper if I had 3.31's. I am not sure that made any sense when I typed it but I thought I had it figured out in my head.

I counted about six posts and not one telling you not to waste your money on the 3.55 gears. You should be changing to Ford Racing 4.10s ASAP, so why would you bother with this option. There are 12,001 posts online telling the benefits of the 4.10s. Call your salesman and delete the 3.55s. NO JOKE!

So why the heck are they doing that? Is it upping their overal fuel milage and making Ford look better? 3.55s are not too steep at all, I say 3.73s should be standard, and now they are drpping it.
