Does anyone know of a proven three link rear suspension? Does anyone have detailed pictures of the 2005 3-link installed in a vehicle to see how it is mounted?

I understand that there is the Steeda 5-link, TA/PH bar set-ups, and also a Watts/TA set-up, but I am curious about a 3-link so you can retain the factory exhaust and don't have the added weight of a TA.

I was wondering about the '05's on this topic, too.

Is very hard to find a 3-link that can keep the stock exhaust design. i'd recommend check/talk with Griggs or Evolution Motorsport.

The Evo system requires dumps, as does a Griggs T/A system. I don't know if Griggs makes a Watts or not.

You may be able to run a stock exhaust, but you'll likely have to cut up your floorpan to get a 3-link to clear. Check out Factory Five Racing, there are some good pics there. Look under upgrades.

The EvM 3-Link will not require dumps, nor does our Watts link. Furthermore, no mods will be needed to the floor. If you are interested, it should be available in the next month or two.

Thanks....Mike

I'm very interested in this 3 link. Do you guys have a web site to check it out or some proto drawings.

Thanks

The 05 is going to have the two LCA's like ours, then a panhard bar and a torque arm as well I believe. There's SOMETHING being bolted to the top of the pumpkin, but I don't see any pictures of exactly what.

Here is a link to the three-link:

http://www.evolutionmsport.com/evm-Product-3link.html

These are old prototype photos, but it should give you an idea of how it mounts in the car. The center link on the latest version is billet aluminum and all the bends in the cradle tubes are mandrell bends. We should have new photos/drawings in the next few weeks.

In response to a later post, the 2005 Mustang does not have a TA, it has a 3-link.

Thanks....Mike

Mike,
I stand corrected, and thank you for the response. It's actually very good news for someone like me who is slightly unwilling to lose their tailpipes. On your companies website, it states "minor exhaust modifications are required." What exactly is required to install this system on a Mustang with aftermarket exhaust installed (my car has the Bassani QT system)?

I look forward to seeing more posts on your products. Please give us more information as it becomes available.

The Three Link will not require any exhaust modifications, just the Watts. It varies from car to car, but basically the tailpipe on the passenger side of the vehicle needs to be modified where it loops up over the axle. In some cases you can simply dimple the tailpipe. We offer a section of tailpipe that will help alleviate this. Other than that there really is not much more modification. On some cars there may be a little interference on the drivers side, but if there is any it can be fixed by dimpling the tube. Most of the time the drivers side tailpipe is fine.

Thanks....Mike

Mike,
It's great that we have a representative from Evolution for tech advice on board here. I am trying to set-up my car for track days/nice weather car. What do you suggest for a rear suspension set-up? I would like to hear your opinions and reasoning behind the parts. Thanks.

That something is the 3rd link. The 2 lower control arms, a center control arm on top (bolted to the top of the pumpkin), and a PanHard bar going sideways. No Torque arm.

Obviously, we are partial to the Watts link as a starter part, then you could follow that up with the three link. If you go to our website you should be able to poke around and get a general idea of what the watts can do for you. There is also a brutally long post on the watts on corner-carvers. We kinda ran the gauntlet over there, but it pretty well covered every aspect of the watts, right down to FEM models.

If you have any specific questions post them and we will see what we can do. I would however recommend the coner-carver thread as start point. Let me warn you though, it is long and brutal.....

Thanks...Mike

Thanks, I read that one at CC.com

Watts and a 3 link, what do you suggest for Lower control arms? Sway bars? Can coil-overs be used with the watts?

We will actually be coming out with some modular/adjustable billet aluminum LCA's, as well as non-adjustable/modular billet LCA's. We have a an adjustable stabilizer bar that is basically a stock replacement bar that covers rates from the GT to the Cobra. We will also be offering a frame mounted adjustable bar.

When we get a little more seat time with the three link we will be having custom springs made to round out the rear suspension. With the adjustability of the 3-Link, LCA's and Stabilizer bars you should end up with a pretty robust system.

OH, and coil overs can be used with the watts. Our LCA's will have a removeable spring plate and stabilizer bar plate as well.

Thanks....Mike

I am by no means a suspension expert, so please bear with me (I found your follow up posts a bit confusing, but I just got off a 12 hour shift too so don't kill me ).

The 3 link won't require exhaust modifications, but it still requires a PHB to work to it's potential? Yes or no?

If no, to what can I compare it to as far as an exisiting suspension system (ie: a PHB by itself?, etc etc).

How will the rear end react with just the 3 link (no PHB) and the upper and lower control arms (I have stock uppers with MM standard lowers)?

The 3 link is designed to work with the Watts, yes or no? (If the 3 link is ultimately designed to work with the watts, I'm screwed anyways since I still have to get rid of my exhaust pipes.....)

Sorry so many questions Mike, but I enjoy the tech side of suspensions.

The Griggs Racing torque-arm with street model panhard bar does not require turn downs. Stock style exhaust pipes can fit, as does the Edelbrock catback system. Others may fit as well.

OK. Think of it this way. The a watts and a panhard bar perform a similar function basically. The three link and TA perform similar functions. If you use our three link you do not use your upper control arms, you get rid of them.

To use a three link you will need some form of lateral control, either a panhard bar or a watts link. So if you currently have a panhard bar you just get the three link. If not you buy the watts (I have to say that....hehehehe).

So, if you are starting out fresh I would buy the watts since that can operate independently of anything else, then move onto the three link. If you start out with the three link you will need to get a watts link or panhard bar at the same time.

So, here is a general summary of what you could end up with.

Watts and Three Link
Watts and Stock UCAs
Watts and TA
Panharad bar and Three Link
Panhard Bar and TA
Panhard Bar and Stock UCAs

Does this make sense?
