I have a 302 that's being worked on and I come acrosss the distributor hole to find the metal sitting above the cam is chipped. I do not know if this is a problem, why it happened, and if that renders this engine useless so I need help understanding this please.

I have added a photo of what I'm talking about

Also found a picture of what I believe the metal used to form before it broke

The earlier 302's were 28 oz balanced, not that had anything to do with your question.

I saw you posted in the tech section of the fox subforum. You might consider doing the same in the classic subforum simply because of the slight differences between our 5.0's and the older 302's. At least for further questions that is.

How would that happen? Seating the dist with a hammer before its in the hole? I wouldnt worry about it if its being torn down. Maybe clean it up a bit. Assuming im making sence of the pic.
