347 reasons to love my car again

Wow! Holy $hitballs! Hello torque!!!

We finally got it fired up about an hour ago. We ran into the usual hickups...Mac headers blow nuts after they've warped, and don't even get me started on this oil pan. It's basically a stock pan with extra capacity welded onto the sides of the rear sump. This along with full length headers means you CAN NOT get the starter out from the bottom...the passenger header has to come out to get the starter out which means the motor mounts have to be unbolted and the engine lifted up to get the header out...all just to change the starter when it goes out.

But aside from that i've got a crazy bad exhaust leak so i've gotta tackle that tomorrow before i shoot any videos but i'll be post whoring the crap out of it when i do. It lopes pretty damn hard with the Anderson cam... i'm pretty stoked. I didn't really get to run it very hard, just 1/2/3 on a back road and even if you pedel it in 2nd and get third to hook up it'll break third loose at 6k and that's with the drag radials on it.

So...if all goes well, pics and vids tomorrow :D

You cant beat a stroker for Tq. My 347 made 434 ft # of tq at the wheels.

Yeah my buddy's making around 420...his car will destroy the tires at 65mph oh the highway...it's a buttpucker ride for sure. I'm hoping to get it on the dyno soon too so i'll post up that when it happens. So far it definitely doesn't run like my heads are choking it.

breaking them loose at 65MPH? what gear is that and what rearend gears? man i wanna see your video. nice car and nice find! what was the cost tho? peace

That's my buddy's GT. It's an 11.5:1 compression 347, all the goodies, about 400hp/420lb/ft at the wheels, 3.73 gears and a T56. Mine did rip'em loose at 40mph going from 4th to 3rd though.

I bought the short block for $1350. It's kind of a F'ed up deal because it was supposed to be a Scat crank/rods and flat top Ross pistons...but it ended up being Eagle crank/rods with dished SRP pistons, so it's a lot less compression than i wanted but it's very pump gas friendly and it's still a good quality stroker.

It has ARP bolts all throughout and came with a 7qt pan, windage tray, new high volumn oil pump and timing chain (which i had to change because the cam sprocket wouldn't work for my mechanical fuel pump eccentric), Anderson Motorsports N91 cam, Crane high rev lifters, and was supposed to come with a main girdle but didn't. On top of all that it had a stripped head bolt which REALLY pissed me off...but i'm playing the better man and letting it all go because it's still well worth the money for what i got.

Right now i'm super aggravated about the starter issue i mentioned earlier, because wouldn't you know it, my starter is giving me fits. I don't know if maybe we ordered the wrong tooth flywheel or what but the damn thing is grinding like crazy. Also i got a call last night saying "oh yeah i forgot to tell you, i didn't bolt up the passenger side header to the X pipe" :nonono: There's my exhaust leak.

So, i'm not sure what to do about the starter. I'm pretty sure my bud's wife is sick of me being in the garage..lol, and he goes in for back surgery tomorrow so i need to find another garage to borrow. If i have to pull the header out again just to change the flywheel, the whole damn thing is coming out and i'm putting a stock oil pan on it.

Oh perfect....now my brand new Holley fuel pump is pissing gas out of the gaskets.

:mad::notnice::fuss::bang::chair::uzi::doh::cry:

Oh well...here's a couple pics anyways. Still pretty low key looking setup which is perfect for keeping it semi-sleeper. I don't know if the cam lope will help though..lol. I still need to clean up a bunch of stuff and i wanted to get all my brackets bead blasted but i was pressed for time so i had to leave them all crappy looking.

The guy i bought the engine from said he shifted at 7400RPM but i highly doubt i'll make power that high. I'm hoping it'll make power at least to 6500 but we'll see. I'm always doing things one part at a time so i can get heads to match the cam sometime down the road.

Was he using a solid cam in the motor before? Its highly dowbtful that a hydraulic cam was revving to 7400 rpms

Read up on Anderson's site. These cams will rev past 7k with stock Ford lifters and 8200RPM with his lifters and titanium valvetrain. It's all in how aggressive the lift curve is on the lobe. There's an article in one of the old mags about Rick's personal car that sports a 347 that winds to 8200RPM on hydrolic rollers without valve float.

Update....i had my neighbor help me push start the damn thing today so i could drive it back to my buddy's garage and work on it again. The problem i mentioned with the starter and oil pan finally broke me and i decided to just pull the engine again and swap out the pan for a stock pan and change to a standard volumn oil pump while i was at it, since i'm not a fan of the high volumn pumps. So all in all, after about 11 hours i got it pulled and the pan/pump swapped over and got it dropped back in...just need to put the radiator back in, carb and valve covers on, bolt up the exhaust and fill the fluids and it should *hopefully* be ready to rock once again.

I'll be making a huge bitch thread about this oil pan...i want everyone to see this amazing POS and take a good hard look at it so nobody else ever buys a pan like this again and gets screwed like i did. So, unless something stops me, i should have it running under its own power tomorrow and if all is good i'll shoot some video and post'em up.

Awesome stuff, its always good when things FINALLY come together, even if it takes a while and a ton of work. I just got my coupe runnin again yesterday and love drivin it again lol. Post up some vids!!!
