351 Cleveland swapped MII

Thing is, with a II you can do whatever the hell you want and nobody gives you for "destroying a classic"

Well, ALMOST anything. I have 2 that top my list. Then again, I'm probably not exactly in agreeance with a lot of people anyway.... lol

The second one is almost there. It needs custom fenders, bumper, valance, and paint. A blower sticking through the hood would be the icing.

Everyone has there own particular taste. Most Mustang guys think we are all crazy for spending any money on a II. The fact of the matter is, I’ve owned almost every year of the Mustang over the years and currently own a 65, 67, 68, 73, 76, & the 78 I’m currently building. The M II remains my favorite for all around fun factor and driving comfort. But most just don’t understand.

It’s been a week since making any progress because I was on a business trip. But I finally am back at it. Moving the tranny over was my next step.

Pulled the transmission cross support and cleaned up the area I’d be working in.

Cut the new slots 1” to the drivers side but that put one right in the large center hole.

So I decided to plate over it.

Here’s the finished product. Fits perfectly. I left the one original slot just in case I ever want to reuse this in the factory original position.

I’ll get this reinstalled and then make temporary plates for the motor mounts to hold the engine in place while building the motor plate.

Quick question. Are the factory passenger and driver side motor mounts on the 302 MII interchangeable? Internet searches are coming up with conflicting answers. I got mine mixed up in the process of everything else going on. The two I have look slightly different and I can’t seem to determine which one goes where. I’m starting to think one has been replaced in the past and that’s why they are slightly different. I have one PN D7ZA-6038-AA and one PN D7ZA-6B032-AA. Can anyone tell me which one goes on which side? Or if it matters. I need to use them to mock up the motor prior to installing the motor plate. I appreciate any help you guys can provide.

For what it's worth, RockAuto is showing the same mount for the left and right side.

RockAuto is showing the same mount for the left and right side.

I saw that as well. But several suppliers show them being the same. However most have a picture that doesn’t even match the factory. Then I read on a different forum that they are different. I also saw an eBay listing for a right side but not left side. So I am confused. Because I’m getting conflicting info.

That was why I even bothered sharing it. It's hard to get a good pic of the part number with it in the car, the oil filter is in the way. But I figured since I could make out a "2" as the last numerical digit it should help give you some point of reference, especially since you have 2 different part numbers and this seems to match.

Here’s where the motor sits currently with the tranny mount shifted over 1” and with factory mounts in factory locations. I’ll move it with migshift brackets and see where it ends up next.

The Mustang ll front suspension is the go-to set up in countless street rods. It is an excellent design, compact and simple. If you look at the hood hinges on a ll and then look at them on a Fox, they are essentially the same. Lots of good stuff came out of the ll, not the least of which was the continuing of the brand. And if you look at sales figures, the ll has a pretty good track record compared to other Mustang generations. It may be the bastard child, but it is our bastard child. Lol.
