351 heads on a 289 what do I need to do.

I just pulled these heads off my buddys 351 that had less then 5oo miles on it before the motor let go. I got 1.80intake and 150exhaust is this good. The cam I got should go good with these heads but I want a bigger cam some where in the 230's and a lift of 520 is there a good cam out there close to this.

351W heads use 1/2 inch head bolts/studs instead of the 3/8 ones that 289/302s use, so the block will need to be machines to accept them.

OR...

You can buy sleeves that will fit into the heads and allow you to use your smaller bolts/studs. This is NOT the precommended way to go for high performance applications.

Other than that you MAY need different pushrods and you may have a significant compression change (depending on which year the heads are). Other than those things this is about a bolt-on and go.

ARP makes shoulder bolts to accomodate the W heads on an SBF block. They also make shouldered washers that can use regular SBF head bolts.
Either way is fine for performance IMO.

BTW: The reason we are curious about the year of the heads is that there are several W head castings that offer no benefit to SBFs and some will actually be alot worse than your stock heads.
This is something that you should look at before spending money on them.
