Anyone know if a 351 with a Victor Jr will fit under the hood of a 66 with a fiberglass shelby style hood? Is there a way to mesure without actually putiing in the motor? I would have to order the rpm or the victor jr and I don't want to be stuck with a hood that will not close. Thank you.

I barely got my 302, with Holley Street Avenger & Air-Gap RPM under my stock hood, with a 2"x11" K&N filter... I think you'll come up short with the higher deck of the 351.

Just get the vertical measurements from the center hole on the motor mounts and transfer that figure to the motor mount brackets, and go from there.

A 2 1/2" or 3" cowl hood looks much better on a '66 coupe anyway!

I am building a 351 becasue I want the biggest motor possible in my car. I wanted a 351 and shopped around and noticed that CHP has a 393 short block for 2100. I figured that would be just fine for my mustang, it is now comming close to the order date and I want to get everything ready for when it arrives

A66Auto... you can put whatever size motor you want in there.... just not with the Shelby style hood.

Take some cheap advise... install the motor you want, then buy a hood to work with what you've got. Otherwise keep the hood you have and put in a 302 based block with nothing taller than an Air-Gap RPM intake on it.

Do either...you can't have both...case closed.

the lower the better, 351 are higher up than the 289s so you will have problems. if you have a hood scoop, then you will want to get a top-flow KN or the summit equivalent. the torker wont give good bottom end torq compared to the performer, it is called torker because it give better torq than other single planes. dual plane is better for the street, besides, a well built exhaust system will benefit more than an expensive intake

I have 351w installed 1" lower than 289 was. Is that out of the Q?

I´ve tried to ask this earlier but do you thing I should alter my trans support, because of the angle of motor? How is it guys?

By the way. Just installed my headliner and looks like I´ll get it ready for spring... THX for all the advices..

I run a toploader, and there's no angle change required that I'm aware of (been running this combo since '93).

Something to be careful of with headliners and 65's and 66's. I don't know if any of you guys have had this "experience", but, if the headliner isn't in properly, at "speed", it can fill up with air and blow down on your head . . . scaring the buhjeezus out of you. It seems to only happen with the windows down. Something to think about . . .

Hmm.. I´ve looked my engine height from clutch linkage´s support point on motor, which shows that my 351 sitis 1" lower than my 289 did. Or is the support positioned lower in 351?

(sorry to steal the thread...)

Off Topic:

That happens to your 65-66 headliner because the bow hems are either missing or rotted out. If that's happening to with your car, you have a headliner replacement in your future...

Headliner Kit - $35...
Front & Rear glass R&R - $100.00
Driving down the interstate without a "bubble" on your head - PRICELESS

For this repair and most everything else there is MasterCard. :p

Bwahahahahaha!!!!

Yup, that's EXACTLY what happens. Now, the REALLY funny thing is that when the windows are UP, the headliner sucks to the top of the roof.

Probably the goober that did the headliner left something out (the headliner has done that since installation).
