351w stroked to 408 CARB

Hello, I’m building a 83 coupe. With the 351w with a tremec tkx transmission.
Parts bought.
1996 351w roller
210cc pro comp heads
Eagle forged crankshaft ( 4” stroke)
Tremec tkx trans.
McLeod clutch

I plan on buying scat rods and pistons
a cam with .525 lift.
I’m asking for some help with picking a carburetor for this build. I was told 650 cfm is the way but I would like more input.
I have my dad’s old Holley
I do believe it is a double pumper. serial #6r 4137 b. Carb was in bad looking shape when I found it. Wondering if it would be worth rebuilding. Would it feed my stroker enough. I feel like it would be cool to have it on my dads old four eye

Just IMHO, you are putting all that money into the engine, don't put that old crappy carb on it. I understand the sentiment but it would be better to be looked at on a shelf than the hassle of dealing with it on your new setup.

I was thinking the same thing .. needing help on figuring which carb to put

What's the expected max rpm you're looking to turn with your combo?

And, at least to me (a carb guy), that carb looks to be in pretty good shape.... not totally clapped out looking like a lot of that vintage carbs. And it looks complete too. Cleaned up and properly rebuilt, it should work great, imo. The annular discharge nozzles are a big plus also.

But I totally understand the convenience of just unboxing a brand new carb and not worrying about the rebuild process and results.

the Rev limiter will be set at 6500 for now

Yes sir I thought that’s what u were asking about. I definitely do want to be driving on the streets. DO NOT want a drag only car. I was told the 650 cfm will work perfect for it. I thought stroking it would make a difference. thanks

I have had more problems with what I will call " worn out " carbs throughout my car life..... No matter what you do to them they just don't work right... Unless your building a matching number car of some sort, I would get a new carburetor......
I am going to give this 500 CFM Summit carb a try on my 030 over 302....
For street use, I am a believer in smaller is better with carbs.... A bigger carb does NOT equate to better...

Were talking street cars here..... As a younger guy we used to put too large a carb on our cars... Bigger is " faster" right?? Of course the Speed Shop was more than happy to sell us new larger carbs anytime... LOL..... I think your 650 CFM choice is a good one...
My calcs were for a max RPM of 5500 on my 302....

I have an 830 Carb Shop modified 750 on my 351W and it’s a bit much. I should have done a 650 and let them modify it but I’ve got this one tuned well enough. As soon as I finish a couple other projects it’s getting injected with a Terminator X.

Another choice I’m thinking about is the terminator x. The plan was to carb first have fun with that. Then go terminator. But now I’m thinking go straight to the terminator. This back and forth contemplation I’m having. I think my buddy and his friends are getting some kind enjoyment In Seeing me trying to figure out what to do With this haha

As far as that carb is concerned, it's a crap shoot, if you've played with carbs as I have, I'd tear it down, toss a kit in it and see how it works, although, and I'm gonna toss a caution in here, firing up a 'new' engine on a 'unknown ' carb without carb tuning experience is tricky but not hard.
I rebuilt the carb on Brand X, it's old (likr 1953 old) but it had a warped lid so bought a 'guaranteed ' rebuilt one (can't get new one's) works good, got lucky, you could get lucky too.

I don't know the difference in these new carburetor names, prolly just a fancy way to cost more basic 'street stroker' just needs a basic carburetor
