I got the spoiler via Fed Ex Saturday morning, but I was on my way to the lake for the weekend and didn't get a chance to mess with it until last night.
Removing the old spoiler is the hardest part. The directions say to remove the 4 nuts and lift the spoiler as you cut the glue with a razor knife. I didn't feel comfortable using a knife around my paint, so I did it a little different.
I used a heat gun and got the trunk lid real warm (heats faster using the gun on the underside of the trunk lid). 4 nuts removed. Then use wide masking tape and run it down the front and backside of the spoiler to prevent your tool from scratching the paint. I then pulled up on the spoiler and used a plastic tool for window tint to cut the glue (an old credit card will work too). Have someone help hold the spoiler when your doing this (my wife wasn't busy so she was helping me). 30 minutes later I had the spoiler off.
The remaining glue comes right off using your thumb. Just kind of roll the strips of glue into a ball. The kit comes with a prep chemical to clean the surface, but I used rubbing alcohol instead.
The directions go on and on about prepping the spoiler for the double sided tape and how to install the tape on the spoiler.... my spoiler already had the tape in place.
Next, I installed the studs on the new spoiler with a drop of blue loc-tite (directions didn't say anything about it, but I like loc-tite!) Then I put the little foam washers around the studs.
I did a test run on the spoiler to make sure it would line up properly before I removed the layer on the tape. The spoiler lined up perfectly (it has no choice as the hole on the far right side is not slotted, it either fits and lines up or it doesn't).
After the test run, I pulled the masking off the trunk lid and recleaned the surface. I removed the layer on the double sided tape and carefully dropped the spoiler in place. All that was left to do was install the 4 new nuts and put the liner back in.
All in all, it probably took me 2 hours... I was not trying to rush it.
Here is the before pic...
And an after pic...
It was dark when I got done last night and my garage is a little tight, so the pics aren't great. I'm off work Wednesday and will get some better shots of it.
I'm glad I did this myself because it really wasn't that hard.... it was just time consuming.
Hope this helps ya, drew and others....
