First I want to thnak you for having the ballz to swap this thing into you car.

I am currently studying that motor to see if it can be installe into a Lightning.

So here is my question:

When the intake manifold in removed on the 3v 5.4 .. Is the intake port area on the heads completely flat compared to one another ? Are they angled like a 302 ? Or sitting flat like a 2v 5.4 ?

why not just go with a 4V? Wouldn't that be simpler?

The 4v motor swap into a Lightning is pretty much the same amount of custom work as a 3v IMO.

I would have to custom build a lower manifold to accept the eaton either way. Same goes for the pulley rack. So it would not be simpler, about the same amount of work.

The 3v's are cheaper and there will be more available custom parts in the futur than the 4v motors.

Nope 1st gen dont use modular engines.. That would be a nightmare.

I have a 2002 2nd gen

BTW: I found the answer to my own question.

As flat as my truck 2v .. good start. I would have scred me to star plaing with adapter plates that compensate for difference in angle.

I'm gonna go buy a gasket for both motor and compare the that way as well.

Bill: does the 5/v 3v have 3 threaded holes in the lower pulley ?

what happened to the 5.4L engine that you had in your lighning then?

all the modular crank pulleys have the 3 threaded holes, most of any model has them, they are they for the pulley puller

Ok thanks.. I wasnt sure if they all had it. I needed to know becasue without them, it's not possible to bolt a custom lowe SC pulley.

My stock motor is doing fine but I'd rather have a built 3v

I wonder how hard it'd be to put one of those 5.4L 3V motors in a 2002 gt

Whenever my motor takes a dump on me (which hopefully wont be for many years) I may have to consider something bigger and better than my lil ol' 2v

the 5.4 3v is similar to 5.4 2v. the block is stronger and heavier. the pulleys are the same. you are going to make more power than you might think. trust me. i am amazed all the time. so far i have buried the speedo and i expect i ran it to around 160-165. hard to guess. after 150 there aren't any numbers. i toasted a 96-98 cobra tonight. i was pumped.

Roush is coming out with it in a couple of months.. Problem is it'll cost $6k and I will still have to rig my all the fuel managemtn from the L onto the roush untit.

I believe the method of making the L manifold fit on the 3v will be less painful than rigging all the L components onto the KB or Roush unit.

Basicaly it's no harder tahn what Bill did but I have to rig a pulley rack for the SC.
