4.10 vs. 3.27 at 60 mph?

How would the outcome be if a stock stang with steeper gear like 4.10 ran against 3.27 stock gt in 3rd or 4th gear at 60 mph+?

The reason for this question is because I raced a stang with a chip and muffler welded in sometime ago at around 60 mph on the highway. I have all the mods in sig. I dropped to 3rd. He jumped first, then I follow. We stayed side by side all the way to 90 until he came to his exit. I don't know what's going on. I have much more mods mods than him.

He has a coupe, I have a vert with the top down when I was racing. He's about 350+ lighter than me.

How do you know that all he has done to his car is just mufflers and a chip ? You also stated you gave him the take off and then you followed suit. If you let him take off first and then you take off next once you see him take off, thats about a good second head start. I don't know about you but 1 full second between two cars that are not too far apart in power is a pretty good advantage.

The dude himself doesn't know what is done to his car. Just the muffler welded in and MAYBE a chip. I just want to know how 4.10 would compare with 3.27 against each other like that.

Well thats one reason I did not get a vert...not good for racing, only for cruzin and looking good with a bunch of chicks in the car LOL.Anyways you have some GOOD mods, and I dont know how he hung with you...must have been a factory freak.(Funny how thats usually an answer in a racing story...or sometimes they say the driver sucks but I dont think thats the case here...anyone can hit 3rd to 4th fast) On a side note, I havnt missed any gear yet in my 04 GT...why do people want after market shifters?Oh and I dont shift like a grand maw, everyone who sees me shift are like man you shift quick...my cousin wanted me to race someone in his 5spd supra, and now wants me to drive the 5spd supra and race him in his other auto supra...so I am NOT slow.I used to drive my dads 00 V6 mustang and I would miss 3rd every once and a while, and for some reason the trans would NOT let me hit second if the RPMs were at around 5000 or so +,it was like a piece of steel was blocking it until my revs dropped below 5K and then it would just pop in gear...happend at the track too, my first run LOL.The next time I shifted just below 5K and it went in perfectly...havnt had any of these problems with the GT though.Anyways it sounds like you know that guy, so I suggest you take a very cose look at his car, bcause he may have a few extra mods that he is not telling anyone about.

your exhaust is really your only power mods and you are very heavy.
The 4.10's are negligable at that speed, once you get through 2nd gear the machanical advantage of the gears is lost and your hp/wieght is what determines what is going on. Form a dig you would have ate his lunch and kept the lead.

That's what I wanted to hear. But could you explain more about when the machanical advantage of the gears is lost and only hp/weight is only the issue in detail?

I am suprised as well, the difference between my 4:10's and 3:27's is astronomical. On the highway with the 3:27 I can drop it in 3rd at 60 and have a pretty good take off (the highway is the only way a ricer will race me) so I had a lot of experience on the highway. Basically when I drop it in 3rd and wait till around 5200 RPMs then I shift. Well with the 4:10's I can drop it in 4th and double the time all the way up to 135 or higher. The max speed I have had my 03 GT with 4:10's was 142 mph, and thats without the programmer. So yes the 4:10 are should smoke factory gears even on the highway. Exspecially with a 5-speed.

I think this guy might have more done to his car than just a chip and welded in mufflers. Just call that a guess. If he doesn't, then remember, you're car is techinically heavier and you did spot him the take off.
