Hey. What are the best gears for a fairly stock GT? It has a full exhaust system and intake, diablo chip, and tru-flow intake plenum. I hear a lot about the 3.73's but am wondering about the 4.10's. Any feedback would be awesome.

1st i'd do a search in this forum with the search forum. this question is asked many times.

the prevailing idea is that if you plan on a poweradder , i.e a turbo or supercharger, you should get 3.73's. but if you don't, 4.10's or 4.30's are recommended. i've only driven a car with 3.55's and been able to compare it with my GT at 3.27 i think. the 3.55's didn't make that much of a difference. however the car was an 03 cobra. anyways i've seen almost everyone agree on the aforementioned theory. except the guys at JBA, who've told me that with 4.10's you gotta always be accelerating in 1st or else the car will buck and all that. obviously if this is true then it could be a pain in the butt in traffic.

all of what i said is assuming you've got a 5 speed.

Well i have 373 gears in my 2000 GT if you do alot of highway miles then your
best of with the 373 if you don't and you run off the hole then 410 are ok either way both are gonna be a HUGE difference from the stock one its that one is more all around "373" and the 410 are better off the hole but not as good in the highway like the 373 are i would go with the 373 in my opinion!

I would definietly go with the 4.10's. I installed them in my car a while back and love them. There is not much difference between the 3.73's and 4.10's as far as highway driving goes, at 70mph about 200rpm difference.

4.10s, hwy miles is not an issue. I can still get around 26 mpg on the hwy with 4.10s.

3.73's for a 5-speed Tranny
4.10's for an Automagic

I know two guys from the dragg strip last summer that both had 4.10s and I have 3.73s. We all have similar cars as far as mods go and I out ran them both. I think 4.10s are too steep for a more or less stock car. If you had heads and a cam it would be a different story but you can only run to 6000 rpms or so and it is time to shift. Plus you never know what might happen later as far as a blower.

I'd go with the 4.10. I'v got a 4.30 in my automatic and its awsome. The highway miles aren't all that bad with the overdrive. I think you would be happier with the 4.10.

Go 4.10s. I'm sure the pros will outweigh the cons. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Why not 3.90's? They are right in between. They work great for me.
