You guys on here with 4:10's in 99+ Gt's and just basic bolts, how well do you do against a stock or lightly modded LS1. Cause I raced one and and I have a intake, mufflers, and CAI and thats it and he pulled about 3 car lengths on me. So I was just wondering what kind of difference there would be if I had 4:10's or 3:73's. Or there is anybody out that with stock gears like me that can hang with the LS1 please let me know how your doing so I can get on the same program. Oh yeah and I honestly don't want to no about power adders cause that obvious, and i can't afford that anyway.

To me 4.10's are a waste. Your car doesn't stay in gear long enough to do anything. I have raced several mustangs with 4.10's and all they do is shift. It's close up until I am half way through 2nd then I pull easily.

As for racing LS1's (I still have a 00 SS) I can stay even with most Lid and cat-back cars out on the highway until I run out of power shifting to 5th but I murder them stop light to stop light. But then again there are no two LS1's that are the same. Some are rockets some are pathetic, transmission really matters too.

Mine ran a best of 13.1-13.3 with only an SLP cat-back. After a BW lid and SLP Y-pipe high 12's are easy. I got lucky and got a rocket.

takes more than just gears to bring down an LS1, they have like 300HP to the wheels (give or take a few HP) and you are pushing between 220-240HP to your wheels.

I wasn't asking how much horsepower a LS1 has I just want to know, what kind of difference the races would be if I had gears, cause I have raced other mustangs with 4:10's and got stomp like i did against that Ls1. Or if anybody is beating them without gears and or major mods let me know what your running, suspension, hp bolt ons whatever you got.

um the HP does matter...if he can bang out 50-80HP more than you, then gears alone will not help. the gears are a good start but also a good suspension build up will help too. i had a drag suspension on my 5.0 and i had near-perfect traction going down the road off a launch. if u have an automatic, get a new torque converter with the right stall. i dont know much about stalls since all i drive are sticks so see if there is someone out there who knows.

well, since ur car is an auto, you definetly need some tranny mods. get yourself some 4.10s, tranny cooler, jerry mod, and at least a 3000rpm stall converter (PI Stallion makes a great converter!)

Well i do have a tranny cooler but I haven't put it on yet cause I don't know how and but what is a Jerry Mod?

its a very inexpensive ($50-70) tranny mod that you can do yourself. It is basically a shift kit that will bring the auto to life. It just involves enlarging the holes in the valve body and removing/replacing some of the springs in the the 1-2 and 2-3 accumalator pistons. Jerry is the one who designed the tranny for our stangs, and this is his mod on bringing it to life. its a good thing u have the cooler, b/c you need it w/ the Jerry Mod.

click the article called:
Modifying Valve Body to Jerry's Specs-Jerrys Mod.

That will tell you how to do it :nice:

you are joking right

and with 3.27s it takes to long to get into your power band to worth anything

if what you say is true then the people you are racing cant drive

I run 13.0 with my 4.10s and thats with a crap 1.89 60' so with a low 1.7 high 1.6 the car would run a 12.7-12.8 with only bolt ons and bot much weight out

I have ran several LS1's from a stop and from a slow roll. I can stay dead even until we get to about 85-90mph where I get in the top side of 4th and they start to pull away. But I'm in a 5 speed. The saying "4.10's wont do much" is BS. You have to know how to drive also  Powershifting with 4.10's feels almost perfect, I lose zero ground when shifting because it doesnt fall under the powerband.

If you took more than 3 seconds to let it sink in, what he was telling you had nothing to do with what amount of horsepower an LS1 has but what you need to beat it. 4.10s or not, you don't have the power.

Uh....read your own signature and compare to his. You're making 263hp and have 4.10s. With his mods, he's lucky to be making 230 in an automatic. Even if he adds 4.10s, he is not going to kick LS1 ass. Also, just curious what exactly can a master of driving like yourself do in an automatic car that would make it so much faster than those who can't drive an automatic with 4.10s?

A stock auto is easily out-driven and performed by a well-seasoned manual driver.

I know that. What he said is that people with 4.10s need to know how to drive.

So if the original poster puts 4.10s in his auto GT, what exactly is he supposed to do as far as "knowing how to drive" that will make his 4.10-geared, ~230RWHP automatic GT beat LS1s?

I agree with you on that, just didn't know what you were referring to. It won't make him beat LS1s, he will just be that much closer.

To the jackass who thinks his stock 3.27s are better for racing than 4.10s:

Imagine you are at the line with a car who is going to get into his powerband before you, shift before you and be right back into his powerband just as you are shifting into 2nd and your rpms drop back to around 2500 or so. How do you think that this gives you an advantage?

Same here, I can usually edge them out in the 1/8th. I'm sure it would be a different story in the 1/4th but we only have 1/8th mile tracks around here.

Couldn't agree more 4:10's is a huge jump even if your on the highway. HP helps most at top speed but from light to light you can't beat having 4:10's and good tires. Yes hp helps of course but gears and dr's on an average street race is more than enough.

Thanks to the guys that understood my question, I knew how much HP an LS1 has but thats not everything as most you know and I know that there some guys out that are running with and beating LS1 with 50 less HP. But thanks again to the guys that understood what i was trying to ask.
