Does anyone have experience with these gears?.. i was thinking about getting a set just to put in for a week or two, just for ****s and giggles. My buddy has a set of them sitting around doing nothing and said I could have them for some small $$, he'd put them in too.

I've got 3.73's but i think it'd be interesting to try them. It'll fit my car, and they're FRPP gears too

So.. what do you guys think of this? Too low of a gear for a 5-spd?

Are you installing them yourself, or are you having them professionally installed ? If you can do it correctly yourself, then give them a try, and see what you think. If you're going to pay to have it done, then I advise against it, because you'll probably want to pull them out eventually. I know Automatic Weapon had a set of 4.56's at one point in time with a 27in slick, and he great results at the track with them.

I've had them in my Mustang and I really loved them, it's a real stump puller with our low 1st gear and still cruises at 2750 @ 75 mph. My son, who has an '04 GT would ride with me while going through the gears and he would say things like, wow, I can't beleive you made all that noise (exhaust at revs) and you're still not speeding, I want some of those gears real bad. So, being the youngin' he is and the nice guy I am (ha ha), I put the whole deal, 31 splines and all up under his car. Now he can make all that noise and not be speeding .

I'd say you'll have a ball with them but be careful of breaking an axle if you don't upgrade them. The torque multipication makes the axles the weak point for sure. I put 3.73's up under mine now since I really couldn't afford the 31 spline axles and posi and feel that is about the limit of a gear with stock axles.

If i dont do the 4.56's I was thinking about maybe some 4.30's.. would that be better?.. because i know a guy who wants to trade somebody straight across for some 3.73's.. and i want a lower gear, like a 4.10.. but i'd go 4.30 if they were a straight trade

What would be better for street driving, 4.56 or 4.30?

4.56!??!?!?!?! Is'nt that gunna kill your top speed like crazy, like wouldn't it be around 120 or 130 after them? I still say give it a try and go down the track once or twice with them

****, i think once you get to 4.30 and 4.56 the difference will be marginal. dump your T/a and maf and get a tuner, and some taller rear tires. calibrate it up with the 4.56s and see how it runs...what the hell

Well.. i cant afford all that stuff right now.. I'd just run that set of gears and keep it like it is, maybe back the timing down if i need a couple degrees...

You watch it Helty! Don't make me drive to Conway and make you think panzy haha

you are gonna be shifting every second...but im sure 1st & 2nd will be fun in a neck-snapping way

my 3.90's are almost too much for highway driving... i shift waaaay too much on the street and i cant even imagine 4.56's...

either you get tired of them real fast or you break something real fast...

There are dimishing returns as you get that high, especially considering how much you will have to shift.

from 3.27 --> 3.73 is about 1/6 increase
from 3.73 --> 4.30 is about that much again.
from 4.30 --> 5.00 is that much again.

I had a buddy that put them in his bone stock '87 AOD GT convertible. To tell you the truth, he didn't find them that bad for daily driving. It really made that slushbox get up and out of the hole though.

Well.. i'm not quite sure what i'm going to do, but I would like to get some lower gears. I really want to go with at least 4.10's.. maybe 4.30's.. i guess 4.56 is out of the question now

I usually drive 75-77 on the highway.. sometimes i get up higher, just to get around 18 wheelers and such, but not much.. i rarely race past 90.. which gears would be best tho?.. 4.10's, 4.30's? or 4.56's? and there is rarely bumper to bumper traffic, well not while i'm out anyways.. i'm usually at home outta school by the time the crappy traffic comes thru town
