My grandfather bought a 2000 4.6 DOHC crate motor from FORDRACING and plans to put it into his '35 3-window. It came complete with the engine harness, the Computer, and the igniton switch (with the PATS system), and a handful of other modules and parts.

The downside is, he got NO documentation, and calls to FORDRACING werent very helpful. He's searched the internet to the best of his abilities and finally broke down and called me (since im the computer guru in the family) to round up the info he needs.

Here's is what I am looking for... If these are common questions, I apologize, but all my GOOGLE searches have left me lacking, and I went pretty far back on this site and a few others but nothing really truly helpful.

1. Does anyone have a schematic for the motor and PCM. He bought a FORD cd off of ebay, but it was less than stellar.

2. Is this a series or parallel sensor motor. What sensors can he ignore and still make the engine run.

3. I have found that you may need a chip to override the PATS system. Who makes that chip? Superchips? Hypertech? Anyway to USE the PATS?

4. I found the aftermarket ACCEL system, but w0w! 1600 bucks or more to replace everything he already has? Any other systems?

5. Any websites that already list all of the answers to these questions? I found Modularfox.com and modulardepot.com but I cant find the info I want on there either.

6. The motor was hand assembled by FORD but sold by FORDRACING and arrived with engine oil in it. Does this mean the engine has been run at least once? Or does it still need to be broke in once he gets it running?

Im a powerstroke diesel guy myself, the last mustang motor I touched was a 302 that I put into my bronco, and that EFI system is a Piece of CAKE! This modular motor on the other hand...

Again, I apologize if this has been hashed, but either my searching skills are failing me, or this info is just extremely scattered and hard to find unless your "in the loop".

You can either reply directly here, or email me any links, docs, or whatever directly.

Thanks!

Daryl

Wow! Cool project! :nice:

As for your questions, I'll take a crack at a couple of them. First, there have been many threads in the past about DOHC engine swaps into SOHC stangs. I would imagine some of the details you are looking for may be there. See what search turns up. Also, the modulardepot forum is an excellent tech site, so some of the guys over there can defineatly answer your questions.
1. A Haynes manual for the Mustang has alot of the schematics you'll need. Helms manuals are better but more expensive.
2. Don't know
3. I think you can use the PATS, again I would search for more info though.
4. I personally would use the stock stuff.
5. modulardepot is an excellent site for tech info.
6. I was under the impression that crate motors have been run and are broken in, but maybe someone will chime in and verify that.

Best of luck to you on your project!
