I've been reading a lot lately about the plastic intake manifolds cracking. Even the ugraded plastic/aluminum manifolds have been getting some bad write ups.

I haven't heard a great deal of good news regarding the Typhoon intake, but understand Trick Flow has one and BBK is working on one.

Just what are my options if I don't want a plastic intake manifold? Does anybody have any experience or know anything about the BBK manifold?

I'm surprised Edelbrock hasn't got one in the works,.....

edelbrock has one out for the 4.6, but it is setup for a carb. the TF is not much of an improvement over stock from what i have heard. the typhoon is crap and then you have the P51 that may yield 10-20 HP at best.

basically a manifold is a waste unless you are SC. the money would be spent better elsewhere. a stock PI inatke with an aluminum crossover will work fine and be cheap!

I think at this point I'm looking for something that is reliable. A power gain is something I'd look for when I do the motor. I only have 17,000 Kms on the car so maybe I'll just keep an it and watch for leaks.

I do like the looks of the Trick Flow manifold though,...

You should be fine with what you have. Its very rare to hear about the improved manifolds cracking though there are a few. Any way you look at it its going to be an expensive upgrade that you really don't need unless you looking to make more power. Remember "If it aint broke dont fix it"

keep your stock PI intake. its actually a good intake, and its light, plus you wont have wasted money on the tb/plenum setup.

If your dead set on a new intake, The bullit intake is an option, its been proven .1-.2 tenths at the track, but little on the dyno. Not a good move unless you are going with an all out na setup and can get one used very, very cheap. They require a lot of parts that add up, plus the weigh more and get hotter than the stock PI intake during normal driving.

Besides E-bay, where's a good place to look for a used Bullit intake?

I have the Typhoon and once you dremel out the casting flash it's a very nice intake. However - if you're looking for easy out of the box power the Fox Lake P-51 is the way to go. Pricey, but their website shows dyno charts of a stocker with +17rwhp across the board.

I heared the same about the Typhoon. I was really looking into their mani since i already have their plenum. I was gonna do a whole PP intake setup. How bad was the casting flash? Is it a lot to dremel?

My car dyno'd at 213 with 273 TQ compared to a similar modded 97 without the intake at 198 and 270TQ

It wasn't a whole lot of flash - but enough to make you wonder about their quality control. It didn't take a whole lot of time - just make sure you've got some extensions for the dremel and a hand file works well too in the runners. Definitely don't want to leave any pieces in there to get sucked into a cylinder.

Take a look at the Hardballer intake from Texas Hot Rods. A buddy of mine has one and it's a very nice piece right out of the box.
